Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

I tried my W03 card maaany times but it just doesn't connect to any other than those ip's. I too had to reconfigure whole network since i've had 10.x subnet...
I even found one forum where it was said that this is the case. Only answer is that it must be multiple sub-versions on the market...

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

I have 32GB FlashAir W-04 and I just cannot make it work, I've been through this so many times over the last 2 days.
I feel like I'm doing something fundamentally wrong somewhere. it can't just be down to juggling ip's to get the right one?
I've got the right Mastercode, I'm copying and saving the code through Terminal on my Mac and I can see it's all right but I just can't connect to the FlashAir yet.

I've got the right Mastercode, I'm copying and saving the code through Terminal on my Mac and I can see it's all right but I just can't connect to the FlashAir yet.
Here is the CONFIG I am using with my 16GB FlashAir W-04:

[WLANSD]

ID=flashair
DHCP_Enabled=YES

[Vendor]

CIPATH=/DCIM/100__TSB/FA000001.JPG
APPMODE=5
APPSSID=MySSID
APPNETWORKKEY=***********
UPLOAD=1
UPDIR=/
WEBDAV=2
NOISE_CANCEL=2
TIMEZONE=-4
DNSMODE=1
VERSION=F15DBW3BW4.00.03
CID=02544d535731364754d10d0e7a011601
PRODUCT=FlashAir
VENDOR=TOSHIBA

It works, but it's a bit different than any other network device. In Finder, I have to connect using Go->Connect to server-> http://flashair.local/ . Unlike every other sharing device I've used, I have to use the http: prefix for it to succeed. I believe this is due to using WebDav.

Although I can connect to it reliably, I've stopped using it. Every other file copied would wind up being 0 length and unable to print. I'd have to copy the same file repeatedly to finally get a successful copy on the SD card. The FlashAir software also would set every file on the same card to the same date and time, which made sorting things difficult.

I consider it a failed experiment. The card is fast enough and useful as a generic SD card, but unless there's a new software update from Toshiba, I'm not going to spend much more time trying to get the wifi connect feature working.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

On the Win 10 PC the card is recognised and I have loaded some .gcode files as a test which appear in Explorer and will load to Slicer.

My current state on the printer though is that the i3 Mk3 recognises the card by "card inserted" message, but then the SD card menu line says "NO SD Card". Won't find/display .gcode files.

Currently the WiFi part is useless, no recognition by anything.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Hi Folks!

I'm sorry but I only read through like half of the 21 pages. My sincere apologies if something similar to this was discussed before.

So yesterday with the settings just above I got it to work but it didn't make any sense. Anyway I was happy. Today no change it just doesn't work. Interestingly my card (W-03) shows up on the router but it cannot complete the connection, or drops it or something alike. It never gets an IP address assigned and it never connected longer than 30 sec. It will try again since the retry option is set.
I am 100% sure it did work yesterday so I know my settings (password) are correct. (Also the router says Authorized: Yes, whatever that means.)

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Hello,

I'm joining this thread to share my experience. After reading the blog article, I've bought a 32GB w-04 FlashAir card. I had no issues with WIFI functionalities, but encountered the "No SD card" message when I insert the card in my MK3 printer. After numerous retries, I was able to make it work, even I don't think it is how it should be. If I pull out the card, just enough to make the printer detect the retrieval (around 2 mm), and then push it back, it works.

Hope it helps

I'm having that same issue with any SD card. The good news is, once you seat it properly, the card can be read reliably. If you only use it via wifi, it may work fine for weeks. Oddly enough, my problem only started after a firmware update, which doesn't really make sense. Haven't been able to troubleshoot it much yet.

I can confirm that this also works for me, which would seem to indicate that something is wrong with initialization.

If I were to guess, it might be related to the startup time of the wifi, which maybe causes a delay in when the printer can get access to the files, and since it cannot get access instantly on insertion it thinks there isn't an sd card?

Which means a firmware update could possibly fix this issue.

I have a 64Gb FlashAir w-04.

It does nothing other than "NO SD CARD" in Mk3.

On WIn10 and Win7 laptops it connects OK instantly every time and will write and read files.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

I have been at it with a W-04 card for about 6 hours and I am feeling like I am working in a DOS environment. Anyhow this is where I sit at the moment.
- Windows 10 environment
STEP 1
- I updated the card to 4.00.03 firmware. The CONFIG looks like this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Vendor]

CIPATH=/DCIM/100__TSB/FA000001.JPG
APPMODE=4
APPNETWORKKEY=******
VERSION=F15DBW3BW4.00.03
CID=02544d535733324755e2047d7a011a01
PRODUCT=FlashAir
VENDOR=TOSHIBA
APPSSID=<<name>>[Was CHANGED by FlashAir Update]
WEBDAV=1
TIMEZONE=-16

MASTERCODE=<<code>>[Was CHANGED by FlashAir Update and has no relation to MAC address on card]
LOCK=1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-I can see the Flashair with the android app. Like I am conntected to a separate wifi Network.
-I CANNOT see the device on the network.

STEP 2
-Using the Flash Air Tool V4.0.0 I update the card with my network info.
-I CANNOT access the "FlashAir drive" setting but can go into each of the other icons.
-I eject the card.
-I plug the card back in.
-CONFIG looks like this:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Vendor]

CIPATH=/DCIM/100__TSB/FA000001.JPG
APPMODE=4
APPNETWORKKEY=****** [Was CHANGED by FlashAir W10 App]
VERSION=F15DBW3BW4.00.03
CID=02544d535733324755e2047d7a011a01
PRODUCT=FlashAir
VENDOR=TOSHIBA
APPSSID=<<My Network Name>> [Was CHANGED by FlashAir W10 App]

WEBDAV=1
TIMEZONE=-16

MASTERCODE=<<My Master Code = MAC Number>> [Was inserted by FlashAir W10 App]
LOCK=1
DNSMODE=1
APPAUTOTIME=1800000

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-I CANNOT see the Flashair with the android app.
-I CANNOT see the device on the network

STEP3
- Now I start changing the other settings
-CHANGES
APPMODE=5
WBDAV=2
APPAUTOTIME=1800000
-ADDITIONS
APPNAME=3D_Printer

[WLANSD]
ID=Prusa_3D
DHCP_Enabled=NO
IP_Address=192.168.0.120
Subnet_Mask=255.255.255.0

Preferred_DNS_Server=192.168.1.1
Proxy_Server_Enabled=NO
Proxy_Server_Name=192.168.1.1
Port_Number=8080
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is not working...

Hello Steven,
do you know this post?
https://www.prusaprinters.org/easy-wireless-printing-with-flashair-sd-cards/
And you have a quite "special" configuration with your Gateway/DNS-Server.
Did you configure that because of your network config, or did you copy a config from anywhere?

Confirmed this to be working. However after switching off the unit you need to do this again.
Reason for me to have a FlashAir card is that I'm fine with printing from SD-Card, but don't want to constantly swapping the SD-Card, with the risk of damaging the slot.

As mentioned by Bobstro it seems to be firmware related, question is which firmwar update Bobstro is pointing at. My best guess is the Prusa firmware, which raises the question if this issue has been reported to the Prusa Crew?

Happy Prusa Printing !

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Why should it directly be related to the prusa firmware?
The SD-Card only needs power to work.
And i think i can remember that the flash-air in the config only disables somekind of sleep-mode/time-out on the SD-Slot.
As long as you have got a working config, everthing should be fine.
I can use my FlashAir Card in every mashine/appliance i have.
But it is important that you follow the steps to initialize the Card before you start editing the config.

--- Make sure to use the "secure release feature" of your OS every time you change anything to the config ---

In addition there are a lot of config´s available here in the forum that have a massive "overhead".
There is no need for a 100 line config just tu use the Upload funktionality.
In best case you only have to much in there, but it is more than possible that you have some kind of konfiguration in there that does not suit your infrastructure. Especially when you are not comfortable with all the config options discribet by the manufacturer.

Hi Kari,

Please note that my opinion was based on the fact that when inserting the card it does work for the WiFi part (as you stated it only requires power).
However the card is not recognized correctly or is not read properly by the printer.

Just slightly pulling out the card (1-2 mm) and putting it back in makes it work, for this reason I thought it my have to do with the printer firmware which might require the card to be available in a certain time frame. By widening the time frame, issue might be solved.

It's good to hear that you have other experiences, and an explanation which (to my opinion) makes sense. Are you willing to share your config file with me? Will start all over tonight, starting with initializing the card and only making the changes to give it a SSID & Password, fixed IP and write access. Will check documentation if there is anything on delays on SD-Slot (Time Out/ Sleep Mode).

Anyway just thanks for sharing your experiences (I assume these are with the W-04 cards?) ?

Kind regards,

Thijs

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Hello Thijs,
you are right, it could also be a problem with the slot.
Some here had the problem that fully inserted cards lose contact.
At the moment i am at work and do not have the chance to send you config.
When i get back home tonight, i will post it here respectively send you a pm.
Greetings
Kai

IIRC it was the update to 3.2.1 where I noticed the problem. I'll be rolling back my firmware next week as part of a troubleshooting exercise (other problems with power recovery) so will test to confirm then.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Having an issue with my flashair. I am using mk3. Sometimes when i drag and drop a file to my flashair it says file is to big. I have put bigger files on there with no problem. The same file that says is too big i can manually put on the flashair card through the computer. I have been searching all over with no results. I have tried restarting everything and does not help.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Having problems? Try updating firmware and disabling DHCP.

  • W-03 firmware: https://global.toshiba-memory.com/personal/flash/english/download/wl/updatetool02_w03.htm

  • W-04 firmware: https://jp.toshiba-memory.com/ww/support/download/flashair/w04/update02.htm
  • I bought the W-04 Toshiba Flashair from Amazon. I did the firmware upgrade from and downloaded the Toshiba configuration software. The Toshiba config software refused to recognize the card and step through the UI, so I proceeded to modify the CONFIG file manually. Using default DHCP settings, I was able to confirm the card connected to wi-fi via router logs, but the device failed to respond to any commands. I modified the DHCP settings in the CONFIG file as follows to enable a static IP:

    DHCP_Enabled=NO
    IP_Address=192.168.0.100
    Subnet_Mask=255.255.255.0
    Default_Gateway=192.168.0.1
    Preferred_DNS_Server=192.168.0.1

    That got everything working. But I was dissatisfied with the wif-fi reception range of the card so I returned it to Amazon. But it did work and if you have sufficient wi-fi coverage, it is a good option.

    Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

    All that has been tried with no luck. It works, yes. Then suddenly it doesn't work anymore. Then it works again. When card decides NOT to work there's no hero who will make it work again, no matter what you do in config file. It just won't connect (BTW...my router is 3 metres from the card in the same room). Even when it works transfer rates are catastrofic.

    It seems that these cards are just "half-product"... beta versions, which have been (wrongly) sent into stores. That's why i'm done with these cards - at least until someone puts out VERY improved version.
