Finally tied out Octoprint.

I got a Raspberry Pi 4 a while back just to see how it compares to the Pi 3, finally got around to trying Octoprint for the first time this evening.

Got the camera module a few weeks ago and printed the mount, had been using it as a streaming camera watching my front porch for a while but figured octopi would be a better use for the setup:

I like the interface, wish the camera stream had a larger image. Also wish it supported 2 printers at the same time.  But it looks like it's not that difficult to reconfigure it for my other printer.  Of course I haven't used that printer in almost a year since getting my MK3S, but if I ever do the octopi interface will make it much easier to use, that printer uses an old printrboard rev D, so no user interface of any kind.

I believe there is a multi camera plugin.

Octolapse can be a little finicky but it is better at doign timelapses.

I did eventually get the resolution on the camera changed, seems the comments in the text file are out of date and after looking at the logs the error message gave the correct syntax to use:

camera_raspi_options="-x 1640 -y 922 -fps 10"

If I ever use the other printer with this setup I can just rotate the camera, there's a screw in the base so it can swivel.  I figure I can just save the 2 configurations on my PC and load them when needed.  I doubt I'll ever run both printers at the same time so no need to build a second octopi.

RE: Finally tied out Octoprint.

Chris talks about using multi-printer support in this video.  The video is about making images but he talks about how to config four different servers on four different ports at various points in the video.

If you have the time to just let it run in the background with audio on you will quickly recognize when he talks about multi-print.

RE: Finally tied out Octoprint.

While you can run multiple instances of OctoPrint on a single Raspberry Pi, I suspect it's not a great idea especially if you want multiple cameras. Given the recent price drop probably better just to buy another Pi.

Also take a look at the Octoprint forum, lots of helpful people (and you get to talk to the dev).

@towlerg

I think you are correct.  Multiple cameras would bog it down and make it impossible slow.
