Extruder motor Moons 0.9° - no firmware change needed?
If you swap just the extruder motor from the Prusa 1.8° LDO style to a Moons 0.9° style, would a firmware change be needed to get it working correctly? Or could it be dialed in simply by roughly doubling the e-steps/mm calibration value?
I have a couple extruder motors that are likely on their last days so wondering if its worthwhile to get 0.9° models? My theory is that the 0.9° motors won't get as hot and will yield more consistency for very low volume extrusion like ironing top surfaces.

Oh yeah I saw that and figured it out.
The short answer to my original question is YES. Totally possible to swap to a 0.9 extruder motor without any firmware changes and just recalibrate e-steps and motor currents.
But due to lower torque on 0.9 motors, it might not perform well. A better approach would probably be a geared extruder like the bmg 3:1 with pancake motor. Saves mass and gives finer control at the same time.

I'm sure that you've seen the big long thread on Moons steppers by Bunny Science on the forum? It's pretty comprehensive, and he's got the firmware mods figured out nicely. Once done, there would be no further action needed until the next FW upgrade.
Me, I'm not ready for firmware mods or e-step adjustments again. I had to go through all of that with previous printers and I would rather not...

I'm not very good at English either! Maybe someday I'll find a language I'm good at?

I'd like to graft the LGX Lite onto the Prusa carriage. That uses large rollers to drive the filament and a smaller format extruder stepper as it's geared.
So, similar to the Bondtech but a little better.
