RE: Extending the PSU cables.

I was considering using something like this as a quick connect in my enclosure:

https://smile.amazon.com/AYECEHI-Extension-Automotive-Connect-Waterproof/dp/B07TX4G7N3/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=24v+quick+connect&qid=1588572987&sr=8-8

I considered cutting them in half giving me four quick connects with "pig tails".  two of them would go to the Einsey, and two would go to the PSU (with some extensions soldiered together with heat shrink).  It would be easy to pull them apart and remove the printer -- and I liked the idea of the caps on the plugs just in case power gets turned on to the enclosure.

I even considered some of these to put a receptacle on the bottom of the enclosure.

https://smile.amazon.com/Sierra-WH10640-Trolling-Motor-Plug/dp/B016A3WGRK/ref=sr_1_16?dchild=1&keywords=trolling+motor+24v+plug&qid=1588573262&sr=8-16

I'm not sure if either of these would work, but I'd love to hear opinions!

RE: Extending the PSU cables.

Am I correct that all six cables from the PSU need to be extended if the PSU is to be put outside an enclosure?

@peter-c20 Depends on the enclosure and how you run the wires.

I'm planning on using anderson powerpole connectors. I've got plenty from doing RC and LiPo batteries.

@dudepron

I used these for our high power rocket launch systems.  these are a great choice.

Where do we use those anderson powerpole connectors? For the black and white wires?

@peter-c20

No.  For the Black and white wires, I would use a standard JDT connector.

Does anyone have the sizes for the Spade connectors on both sides? When I move my power supply, I'm going to replace the wires with silicone covered ones.

RE: Extending the PSU cables.

I just found this site. https://github.com/PrusaOwners/prusaowners/blob/master/MK3_Compatible_Parts.md

That seems to have the correct information.

EDIT: Specifically here https://github.com/PrusaOwners/prusaowners/issues/61 . Match that up with the parts list above I hope I can find the correct connector at digikey

Great product.  I started a similar list that I have not posted to Github yet.

RE: Extending the PSU cables.

I think I found a supplier in the US. Waiting to get samples to find out. If so, I will have a supply since the smallest order I can get is 100.

Owing to lack (boom boom) of Ikea I'm just in the midst of altering an old shelf unit into an enclosure so this is a very useful thread thanks.

One quick question though please - is it bad to turn on/off at the mains wall socket and leave the power supply switch on all the time?  Just wondering if it has a soft start and might be damaging long term?

Thanks.

RE: Extending the PSU cables.

I don't think it has a soft start.  It isn't starting a motor when you turn it on.  IMHO, you should be okay.

RE: Extending the PSU cables.

For those who come later, I've found another set of the flanged forked connectors, but from Morris Products.

PSU Side: Morris Products 11810 Nylon Insulated Flange Fork/Spade Terminals - 16-14 Wire, # 6 Stud
Einsy Side: Morris Products 11802 Nylon Insulated Flange Fork/Spade Terminals - 22-16 Wire, # 4 Stud

I ordered a batch of each from KTools.

EDIT: Hm, it may actually be 11812 and 11804.  I've ordered a set of both so I can confirm which ones are the winners.

I would appreciate that.  I plan to replace mine again.

RE: Extending the PSU cables.

Sadly my orders ended up being cancelled as the merchant did not actually have any stock like their website led me to believe.

Also, KTools implemented a minimum order of 100x on these connectors after I had initially placed my order, so I'm hunting for another company that is willing to split up the bags and sell these individually.
