Bondtech LGX Mosquito shortcut

I just installed a Bondtech LGX Shortcut Mosquito Upgrade Kit For Prusa i3 MK3S (+), i followed the guide. I have upgraded to the correct firmware and the wizard/calibrations completes with no errors. But, when I try to print a benchy the printer does the 9 points calibration (or waht you call it), then raises the Z-axis a bit and then clicks/knocks three times loudly while moving the x-carriage and then stops and prompts me to unload the filament. It then proceeds to prompt me to load the filament again and the repeats the process in a loop.

any ideas? I am stuck 🙁

RE: Bondtech LGX Mosquito shortcut

I have this exact same issue with a bondtech/mosquito upgrade kit. Its not the filament sensor as it reads that there is filament but it continuously forces a unload/load of filament. I attempted to use a prior version of the Bondtech Prusa firmware and the issue continued. Looking for help as well.

Guys get this sorted? I''ve same issue it seems - but it is related to the filament sensor, because disabling the sensor and everything works as expected.

RE: Bondtech LGX Mosquito shortcut

I had the same issue and was told by Bondtech to reshape the spring inside the sensor housing, which sounds like it would invalidate the warranty. It's a really bad design and is essentially a ball that displaces when filament is pushed along side it. The ball nudges a spring, the end of which engages with the sensor. Unfortunately, the spring and it's mount need to be properly shaped or it won't work - it will be permanently engaged. I wanted a pneumatic coupling so I remixed the STL and printed it, transplanting the spring. It works now but I shouldn't have needed to do it. I've been onto Bondtech for other issues with this extruder/hotend but they are hopeless. I now have a clog that won't budge and faced with having to take apart the entire assembly just to access the multi-function interface to remove the hotend, which is at the back and completely inaccessible. According to Slice Engineering I have to remove the hot end and place it in the oven. Seriously!

I ended up disabling the sensor and now it works. But now I have another issue. I can't get the extrusion to work properly. When I do the first layer calibration I never get the filament to stick to the bed. The filament extruded is thin and stringy and more or less just wont stick and I end up with a small blob. I have sent an email to Bondtech support but no answer yet. Any advice on how to proceed with troubleshooting?

Sounds like extreme underextrusion.

The LGX has a three position lever. Perhaps the filament is too narrow a diameter for the middle position?  Try moving it to the tightest position if possible.

Of course, check that the nozzle diameter is the same as what was set in the slicer.. an oversized nozzle will under extrude.

As the Bondtech is gear reduction and the standard Prusa firmware is direct drive, it could be that the steps per mm is incorrect. Also, Bondtech has different gear ratios for different extruders, and micro stepping matters as well.... so double check the firmware type  and that the firmware flashing completed and the printer was restarted.

Or maybe there is a clog or restriction? Perhaps the issue with the filament sensor is making the filament stick?

Yes, I have tried a lot off positions on the lever as well as a lot of different filament types and rolls. Using a 0.4 nozzle and that setting is correct in Prusaslicer.

Firmware is correct and steps are correct, I have verified that with Bondtech support.

The strange thing is that if i manually extrude using the menu in the Prusa, the filament looks fine. When I print it gets thin and stringy.
