Bear vs. Haribo vs. Zaribo
Hello all,
I have a mk3 and absolutely love it. I'm looking to mod it with improved parts and was considering the Bear mod. However, I'm not completely sure what Haribo and Zaribo may entail. Before I jump, could someone provide me a short comparison of the 3 styles, pros/cons, any experiences, thoughts? I greatly appreciate your comments.

Haribo was the original I believe, and it was kind of a Thingiverse project. I converted my Mk2S with it a long while ago, It is not for the faint of heart. Components have to be sourced from individual suppliers and I was redesigning plastic parts on the fly in Autocad in order to end up with a printer that matched the Mk2S dimensions so that firmware changes were not needed. It was a superb project but it took quite a while and would not be feasible if you did not have a second printer to make new parts on during the rebuild. The resulting printer is rock solid and prints like a dream, and it has now been uprated through the various version to be a Mk3S.
Zaribo looks to be similar in that you end up with a printer in a rigid 3030 frame. From what I can see Zaribo have produced similar to the Haribo mod but in a more finished form, in that you can buy the parts already cut and drilled etc directly from them, and complete sets of reworked plastics which will fit and produce a working printer. If I were doing this again I would definitely be looking at the Zaribo kits. Their shop is here - https://zaribo.com/

Zaribo is interesting but for the price, you could buy a creality.

Very true, but then you would have a Creality instead of a much enhanced Original Prusa.

That is true. How much changing of the firmware do you have to do after one of these upgrades?

That is the beauty of the Haribo. I made certain that the dimensions of my new frame and the new printed parts kept exactly the same sizes and ratios as the original printer, so stock firmware works without any modification.
The larger Zaribo's with extra height would need firmware changes every time a new release came out though.

I used the Zaribo design influence and made my frame from 3060 extrusions for X and Z, 3030 for Y. I had to re-design the Z -axis parts(using some parts from the JLTX design), Y-axis parts, electronics box, and PS mounting..... but it runs quieter than my original Mk3.

No ideas how you guys keep it clean under your printer. Mine is always messy that's why I would never place a power supply or electronic board under the print bed.
@Phil: The first question should be always what exactly do you want to improve before applying any mods. If you don't know, then don't touch. But once you know, you can check the items on this three major upgrades.

Hello again, I want to thank everyone for their comments. Re: my initial question, I have had my mk3 (my first printer), for a year and a half and like the prints coming from it. I've seen many designs by many people to improve cooling stiffness, etc. and was wondering if any of these would be a good upgrade for me. Like many others, I have had problems with jams, etc, the usual growing pains with 3D printer ownership. I started to print some of the upgrade mk3 parts and one thing lead to another: I started to consider the Bear to stiffen the frame, then do I want more z with a Haribo/Zaribo? so on, so on. Do you see my dilemma? I have admit that I need more time to consider these more extensive upgrades, and learn what I need for my situation, I'm in no real hurry.

Bear is the successor of Zaribo. You can also add z-height to the Bear (longer rods and extrusions).

If you decide on Bear build (or his axis), also grab my motor service variant of his extruder. It's on the issues page of the Bear GitHub page. https://github.com/gregsaun/bear_extruder_and_x_axis/issues/32
That will let you swap out motors with just a few minutes instead of two hours. Opens the your world to easy experimenting with 0.9 degree motors and Bunny Science Gearbox extrusion uniformity goodness.

Came across this in my research and cannot see how your statement is accurate. Zaribo is still going strong and actually uses 3030 instead of 2030 for the frame Also their frames are cut and drilled in a way to make frame alignment a breeze. They ALSO sell a conversion kit to increase the build height of an original Prusa. I have not found a single place to get that for the bear upgrade.
