I gave KISSlicer a go. It has some very good features, but the things I need most are easier to work with in other slicers. I registered for the full $60 version with high hopes of seeing ongoing development, but it seems to have stalled out.

I was just wondering as I start my Delta rebuild because the momentI think I will be staying with and relearning Matercontrol on the delta (using its Slic3r option to give some level of connection with my use of Slic3r-pr with my MK3) but with the number of folks over in the delta group that have jumped to the Kisslicer I am very curious why it gets so little mention here.

bob just trying to set up kiss for the MK3 and I can see some of the needed settings with ease as you can see here

do you have the numbers to fill out the optional section?
and any other set up info for someone who has never used KISS? since it has a free to use version I want to give it a fair shake.

Which Simplify3D will not get from me due to their not providing a time limited free to use version rather than taking my money first with a 'refund promise' if I am not late with such a request. I am sure that there a folks that wanted that refund but were too slow to ask for it and I bet that is what Simplify3D counts on. )sorry for the rant this sort of 'marketing' is one of my pet peeves 😡 )

The slicer discussion here seems to center on the Slicer-PR of course as it is the house Prusa slicer.
which with Alpha 2 is amazing and the best slicer I have ever used over the last 4 years but of course it is just for Prusa Printers

Next is the https://www.simplify3d.com which even though it costs $150 seems to have quite a few Prusa users. I have not tried it due to my retired income limiting my fun funds to a budget constraint.

Then we See Cura at https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software mentioned quite a bit I looked at it 4 years ago for using my delta but I did not warm to it for some now forgotten reason

Then we have https://www.repetier.com/ which I have not seen anyone post about here but it was one of the slicers I used on my Delta

What I used the most on my delta was http://www.mattercontrol.com/ and its own internal slicer though it also used Slic3r and Cura do to health problems during most of 2017 through this last summer i was out of the 3d printing loop and so I do not have the benefit of following these slicers through their development. and only in the last few months have I relearned the basics of 3D printing. Matter Control is another option that I have not seen mentioned here.

As I start to get the hardware together to rebuild my Rostock Max V2 into a semi Max V3.2 I have noticed that many if not most of the folks that were using Mater Control on their deltas have moved to using KISSLICER http://www.kisslicer.com with most of them using the 1.6x version and a fair number on the new V2 Alpha though I see thais just for Windows. right now

With Simplify3D at $150 with no free trial just a 2 week refund option

Kissicer Free has a pro at $42 for the 1.6.x and $62 for the 2.x but they have the benefit of the free version and I am wondering why I don't see it mentioned in the Prusa forums.

Just spotted this and have to say you may have missed the point of Slic3rPE, On the surface it may appear to only be for Prusa printers as they are the only ones supported directly, but just hit the custom button in the configuration wizard and you can set it up for any FDM printer you have. Support is there for many different GCode flavours and the bed size and shape is completly customizable. Give it a go and see for yourself.

Don't rule out Cura either, I still use it when I need something delecate with lots of overhangs printed. Hidden away in the expermental section of the setting is the best tree support system I've seen. The problem with Cura is that it hides away so many features you may overlook it sor being so simplified, it really isn't. Take a trip into the setting section of Cura's configuration window to see what you missing out on, and they keep adding to the already impressive selection with every release.

I'm on the road and don't have it installed on my laptop, so it'll be a few days before I can look at it again.

on the Slic3er-PR I did not know it could be used on other FDM printers I thought that for my delta for example I had to use the Slic3r version that Prusa forked from. thanks for the heads up on that George.

I have totally fallen for the Alpha improvements in Slic3r-PR and I will be quite happy to make it my go to slicer for my Duet2 wifi improved Rostock Max 3.x going forward.. I am getting too old to juggle so many slicers in my head...

Sorry to be so slow responding. I'm wrapping up a 2 week road trip tomorrow.

If you're going to try KISSlicer, I strongly recommend spending some time on Michael Hackney's YouTube channel. He's got some great videos that really break down slicers in general and KISS in detail. I don't have the link to PJR's profiles handy here at the hotel, but you can try sending him a PM here. The KISS forums are mostly moribund, but a post there should work.

It's an amazing slicer. Unfortunately, development is ... uncertain and a lot of features I've come to like are missing. If you want a slicer that consistently produces solid gcode and are worried about consistency and refinement, it's well worth spending time on KISSlicer. I wouldn't call it fun to use however.

Michael Hackney was a big help when I was building my SeeMeCNC Rostock V2 over Christmas 2015. I wondered where he went as he vanished from the SeeMeCNC forums when I went there last fall to search for info on Upgrading it to a V3.x. thanks for the nudge to seek out his stuff again.

George has pointed me to the fact that the Slic3r-PR can be used with other companies printers so I will give it a try with the delta once it is updated wit a duet2 WiFi and the SE300 effector sensing system.

Thanks for all the info on KISS I am leaning toward just learning as much as I can about the Slic3r-PR in its new Alpha clothing. and trust to luck that it will be a happy combo for the Delta as well. After giving the Michael Hackney videos and his website at www.sublimelayers.com a once over, there is a tone of stuff using KISS on Delta like mine; so if the improved Slic3r-PR does not make a good match with the Delta Kiss will be a good fallback position
