Windows 10: Perl interpreter has stopped loading in Slic3r 1.30-prusa3d

When I attempt to load spool holdahMK3.stl from https://github.com/prusa3d/Orignal-Prusa-i3/tree/MK2/Printed-Parts/stl in Prusa3D Slic3r MK2 (1.30.0-prusa3d-release_candidate_1_2) a popup error displays:
Perl interpreter has stopped working.
I rebooted computer but same error happens. This piece cracked so I would like to print another one. What can I do to generate the gcode? Other stl files from thingiverse load fine.

Apparently 1.29 is more stable that 1.30. Where can I download this for the MK2?

Slic3r is available here: http://slic3r.org/

But there are other slicers available. Try Cura (V15.04.6 do not try the beta V2) from here: https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software , that will generally work quite well for most parts.

Or, if you are feeling brave, you could try KISSlicer V1.5 RC1 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3evahzu5gfelpte/AAC2KGgRegBO0ueRc6zwSLHva/KISSlicer_1.5_rc_1?dl=0 which was released a few days ago (unfortunately, you will have to build your own profiles for that though...).

I only see .5 not .6 and have downloaded that. Is there some kind of profile I can load for the MK2 so it automatically sets the appropriate settings? Or do I need to manually check what is being used in Prusa3D Slic3r MK2 settings and use that? I'm new to 3d printing so trying to figure things out. Thanks.

Not sure as I don't use Slic3r.

And I don't want to guess, so you will have to wait for a user to come along who can give you more info. Sorry 🙁

Re: Windows 10: Perl interpreter has stopped loading in Slic3r 1.30-prusa3d

OK, I have sliced it with KISS with 0.25mm first layer 0.2mm remainder, 210/55 degrees for PLA.

Hope this is OK for you...

Peter

EDIT: you may need to add the G80 (or is it M80; can't remember) calibration code at the start, but as far as I can tell, it should be included in G28 (firmware dependant)...

Thanks, I ended up printing the model from mk1 I believe and it works fine. I may print this in the future so thanks.

Hi Prusayo,

I just tried to load it with the last version provided with driver 1.7.1 and it load just fine. Did you use the same version ?

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

I am using Prusa3D Slic3r MK2 (1.30.0-prusa3d-release_candidate_1_2) which I believe I got from 1.7.1 which would be the same version you have. What OS are you using? I am using Windows 10 so maybe it's related to the OS or some environmental issue.

Note that all other stl files load fine from thingiverse etc.

Slic3r does have issues hence why Josef has created a new branch. I would not expect all those issues to be fixed in the RC1, indeed it would not be unexpected for additional faults to appear.

There are other slicers available and I have 4 such programs installed on my PC (KISS, Cura, Craftware and Slic3r - listed in order of usage).

None of the other free slicers have settings for MK2 yet:
http://www.prusa3d.com/drivers/
Once it's available I'll try them out but I'd like to focus on slic3r since there are dedicated people here working on it for mk2.

Re: Windows 10: Perl interpreter has stopped loading in Slic3r 1.30-prusa3d

OK, that's fair comment, but how do you think other people have progressed?

Creating profiles is not the most difficult thing to do and it has taught me a lot about the printers and how they work.

I started off with a Chinese clone; there were no profiles available for that, so I downloaded Cura and got on with it. Ok, I made a few mistakes, but the end result has proven to bee so much better than using generic profiles which don't completely match up with the printers and filaments I use.

Don't forget that every printer is different, every spool of filament is different and the environment in which the printer is used is different.

Good slicer profiles (and modified firmwares) will take all this into account.
