What is the feature in Prusa Slicer that puts the first layer ring around your print?

When you use PrusaSlicer to make a gcode file it always puts this ring on the first layer that is an outside boundary around your print.  I've found this to be worthless at best and quite frankly problematic many times.  Because it is a first layer print it has a tendency to not stick well and then 5 layers into your print it will lift and then basically contaminate your print.  How can I turn this off so when I make a gcode it is not there.  I went through all of the menus but it is not clear to me what "feature" is making this happen to disable it.

This feature is the Skirt feature.

I am surprised that you are having problems with it, and would suggest that you look for a cure to the problems.

the Skirt ensures that your extruder is feeding properly before you start your print. if you do not print the skirt  then your first couple of mm of the print, may be defective.

however the default height for the skirt is 3 layers, I guess if your adhesion is poor, the second and third layers may loosen the skirt.

why not set the skirt to be only 1 layer tall, then you should get the benefit of the feed check for the first layer and no issues with later layers.

regards Joan

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

Its called a skirt.  The setting is under Print Settings>Skirt and Brim>Skirt.  Many of the settings are only visible if in Advanced or expert mode.  If you want to disable it set Loops to 0.

It's actually quite useful as it defines the area of the print and if it lifts then its a good indication that the bed is not clean.  With a properly clean bed it does not lift.

Ah that's it.  I knew what brim was but I was not sure on skirt.  The bed is clean and adhesion is good thanks to your tips joantabb.  I just find it worthless.  I always watch a first layer going down and I can tell in the first few seconds if there is an issue.  I use a 7x7 level.  In this instance it picked up but I am printing a very large (pushing the limits I know) bed of facial mask relief's.  The skirt is right at the edge of the print area.  It didn't ruin anything but I don't see the point either.  Thanks.

Clean bed with dish soap, then it sticks a lot better.

Thats exactly what I do.  It still comes off. It's not a big deal. Now that I know how to turn it off it's gone.  If it is a feature you like that's great, use it. I don't want it and just wanted to turn it off.
