Re: Slic3r wish list

If possible, it would be nice to add custom gcode to the start of the layer which would run once a specific z value is reached, similar to the functionality of using the color print.

David,

What possible custom g-code could you want to run at a specific height? The only things that come to mind would be change speed, temp or possibly change the high power/silent mode.

Well in fact I can see a lot of things that could be changed depending of the layers, like Infill type, perimeters, layer size ...

But that needs will be very dependent of the object design. It would be very advanced setting.

There is a setting (the number of threads) that I do not understand why it is in the advanced section of a print profile. Shouldn't this setting be located on preference instead ? It should be a global parameter of how Slic3r is behaving, so in file-> Preference section.

Wouldn't that make more sense ?

Re: Slic3r wish list

On some of my function pieces like this mouse bungee, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:986652 , the object needs to be heavy.

Right before the top layer is sealed. I put metal coins or BBs in the base ( using 0 to 3% infill) before the object is sealed. So I would like to have the print pause and resume once I have loaded the print up with metal material.

This is just one example but I have others like for printing PCB and using conductive ink with z-axis tape ( https://www.adafruit.com/product/1656 ) so I can make a multi layered circuit built into the the 3D model which is useful for robotic parts that need control lines to control servos.

Yes, but these aren't g-code instructions, per se, but actual print settings. Layers can already be done in slic3r but the rest currently require Simplify3D.

Re: Slic3r wish list

Discovered another one today. Since I know you're working on supports, might be something worth looking into.

Looking at printing a model that is larger than most I've done, it requires supports pretty much the entire thing (it's basically one big overhang). The 'don't support bridges' option that's default needs a much more conservative maximum unsupported bridge length I think. Maybe user-configurable depending on material and such?

Right now it's got a 130x150mm section that is almost entirely unsupported despite being flat and mostly all overhang.

1. Detection of printed sections that are floating in mid air. I've had issues where there are small section printed that aren't connected to anything.

2. Ability to rotate a model by selecting the face you wish to contact the built surface.

Re: Slic3r wish list

For parts printing, it would be cool if you could specify different vertical shell perimeter values at different z values.

This is supported by Slic3r using the modifier meshes.

Holly s*t, this is fraking cool (Galactica reference are always welcome) 😀 !

I never understood this screen up to now, this is a just massive tweaking enabler 😮 😮 !

Yes, the modifier meshes are a very powerful feature, which makes Slic3r much more versatile than Simplify3D in many ways.

I wonder if it can be used with some GUI refinement to make the sleective support feature.

[brainstorming mode]
Like a button to create one or several red sphere/cube for support cancellation, a button to create one or several blue sphere/cube for support cancellation, a set of GUI option to move and resize these object.

One mode to manipulate them on the Vertex representation, another one to manipulate them in preview mode, so that you can see how the support were generated on the last slicing simulation.

That's so easy to imagine stuff when you are not programming ^^

Re: Slic3r wish list

Some of my supports broke during printing this tough object:

Triple gear (solid)
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:79310

A cool feature would be make the supports thicker and then taper off once they get attached to the printed object, especially if the supports start at the print bed and are tall.
