slic3r profiles in 1.31.5

So i installed the new driver package last night... and this morning I will be rolling back to the previous.

For me the changes to the way the new version of slic3r functions has really hit performance. Changing from one of the default print settings profile to another results in a "not responding slic3r" for a couple minutes, then a couple of minutes, or five (or more depending on what was on the plate) as it prepares the infill included within the default profiles. This did not happen on the previous version, meanwhile one core on my pc is slowly, painfully chewing through code.

I will be going back to the previous version for the moment. The changes and possible benefits for the moment are utterly diminished by the decrease in my productivity.

So I was running Slic3r 1.30 and have setup both versions to run along side.

Looking through there seems to be quite a difference between the default print setting profiles - infill - top and bottom layers - way more 1.2mm in total, on top for all layer heights - overlap - bottom layer speed.

First layer height is 0.2 across all profiles?

Are these intentional? I am guessing that the fill settings and marked increase in top and bottom layers would account for some performance hit?

By mistake, the current Slic3r-settings have the background processing enabled. Please go to the preferences dialog and disable the background processing.

Also we are aware that the "new" slic3r generates the G-code quite slowly compared to the old slic3r. We added the "ensure vertical wall thickness" feature, which is quite computationally intensive. You may disable it, but then the sloping surfaces may not be closed properly. This is a quality feature and it shall improve quality of some prints considerably. The next release will improve the speed of this new feature.

Talking numbers, on my Windows laptop, slicing a T-RexSkull_Skull.stl with the previous Slic3r took 1:00s with the risk of possible holes on sloping surfaces. With the latest released Slic3r Prusa Edition that you have installed and with the new "ensure vertical wall thickness" feature enabled, it takes 2:15s, the upcomming Slic3r will cut that time to 1:25s including the "ensure vertical wall thickness".

I believe though, that the biggest hurdle is the "background processing" settings enabled.
