I have just one word: Whao !!!

Made some test with a complex model, with support activated, and setting the number of threads to 8 for my good old i7 2600k, and Slic3r 1.33.8 made 40 seconds where the new 1.34.1 made ... 12 seconds !!

This is a *massive* boost !! Well Done !

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Re: Slic3r 1.34.1 - Prusa Edition (Beta)

Hello,
First of all, I am very new to Slic3r so please accept my apologies if the answer might be obvious.
As instructed, I download the zip file from Github and copied all its contents to the installation directory of Slic3r.

If I start up Slic3r from the start menu created by the installer, everything works fine. The reported version is 1.34.1 and I have access to all the Prusa printers + filaments profiles.
If I launch Slic3r from the executable file directly or if I double click on an STL file (which I associated with Slic3r on my PC), the Slic3r starts but I have no printer or filament profiles available for selection. (Displayed version is still 1.34.1).

Do you know if it is possible to have Slic3r started automatically when a STL file is double clicked while still remaining able to use the Prusa settins profiles?

Or is this something inherent to Slic3r and not related to the upgrade to the 1.34.1 version?

Thank you in advance,

Fosk

Hi,
After Updating Windows 10 to Creaters Edition Slic3r don't work.
Starting duration ~50s
Menu opening - mostly unpossible.

Seams it is working extrem slow an dont work.
Same for "Official Version", "Beta Version"

Hi Fosk,
for me everything you mentioned works and it is very strange, you are missing the profiles. From where are you running the executable (Slic3r.exe)?
It must be: C:\Program Files\Prusa3D\Slic3rPE\Slic3r.exe

and same path has to be used for setting Slic3er as default .stl program.

Let me know 😉

Hi Thomas,
just upgraded to new Windows build and everything is running smooth here. Try to copy/paste version 1.34.1 again and if the problem persists, try to uninstall/delete everything, reboot and install Prusa drivers again.

Let me know, if you manage to solve this issue.

Thanks

Hi Jakub,
Thank you for your help.

My installation directory is "C:\Program Files\Prusa3D\Slic3rPE" and I am indeed running Slic3r.exe.

I had a look at the shortcut which was installed by the Prusa drivers and I found our that it did not simply run Slic3r.exe: the shortcut includes the following flag
--DataDir "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Prusa3D\Slic3r settings MK2"

I guess that this is why I do not get any settings when launching the exe file directly as Slic3r does not know where to find the settings.

Would there be a way (config file?) to set the DataDir permanently without having to provide it as a flag?

Best regards,

Fosk

Re: Slic3r 1.34.1 - Prusa Edition (Beta)

Thomas,

This is a reoccurring issue.

https://github.com/prusa3d/Slic3r/issues/233

There is something wrong with the Windows 10 update and the Intel HD graphics driver. If Slic3r seems to be extremely slow after the Windows 10 update and you are running a computer with an Intel HD graphics, you need to upgrade your graphics driver. Ideally you should use the download utility from Intel

http://www.intel.eu/content/www/eu/en/support/detect.html

Please let us know whether it worked for you.

Thanks, Vojtech

I am not sure whether you can associate an STL file with a Windows link file. Anyway, you may just copy the MK2 profiles to
"C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Slic3r"
or
"C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application Data\Slic3r"

and just start Slic3r without the --datadir parameter. The settings will be loaded from the default place.

Thank you, I just copied the files to \AppData\Roaming\Slic3r in my user folder and when I came back to the forum to report that it worked, I found your post which suggested me to do exactly that.

Problem solved, Thanks again.

Would you please be more specific? You are the first person giving such a feedback on the current beta, so I wonder what is going on.

Re: Slic3r 1.34.1 - Prusa Edition (Beta)

Sorry, it's just kept crashing for some unknown reason. I'm not making the prusa slic3r a bad name or product... but i rectified it somehow.

What I did was to reinstall my gpu driver, I'm using asus laptop with nvidia gtx950m, did a clean install from the older driver installation and the sli3r worked great now.

Sorry for the false alarm. But hope this solution able to help someone with same problem

Thanks for heads up. Unfortunately it is a known issue, that the OpenGL graphics drivers are often buggy on Windows.

Re: Slic3r 1.34.1 - Prusa Edition (Beta)

I was trying to rectify an issue with playing a game where the driver kept crashing, ended up I doing the downgrade without any clean install, then update to the latest without clean then with clean again in total of 2 installations of the same driver version, I didn't check the prusa slic3r.

I was in panic when the prusa slic3r kept crashing so I ended up reporting the problem here and then tried to reinstall the older driver with clean install. So far playing that game are great and prusa slic3r run perfectly normal too.... hopfully

When slicing with a skirt and a brim, with the skirt distance set to 0, i'd expect the skirt to be in contact with the brim. there is a small space though. I'm experimenting with a difficult material and i want a tall skirt as a draft shield, and i'd like it attached to the edge of the brim to help prevent it from detaching.

Re: Slic3r 1.34.1 - Prusa Edition (Beta)

There are 2 bugs I ran into I believe.

1 - Enforce support for first ... layers is still not working (at least not in the Preview and Layer tab)

Trying to print a round ball of 14mm with 0.25mm layer height and want to build support till roughly 5mm which means support for the first 20 layers (or am I making a mistake?

After slicing the Preview and Layer tab dont show it.

2 - When I select pillars as support pattern it creates honeycomb. I just started with all this but I'm quite sure these are honeycomb shapes that are printed 🙄

I will have to look into it. It works somehow, but not the way one intuitively expects it to work.

The pillars are not implemented with the "new" supports. They never worked reliably anyway. I shall just disable it in the UI.

Re: Slic3r 1.34.1 - Prusa Edition (Beta)

First, a big thanks to the Prusa team for developing the neat new features in the Slic3r Prusa Edition. Very cool.

There appears to be a bug in Slic3r PE v1.34.1 that is quite reproducible and does not occur in Slic3r PE v1.33.8. In fact, I spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out why Slic3r v1.34.1 wasn't providing the expected results until I tried the exact same settings on v1.33.8 and it worked perfectly.

If ...
Printer Settings > Support material > Generate support material = checked; and
Printer Settings > Support material > Contact Z distance = 0
... then some or all of the support structure starts printing on layer 2 (i.e. printing in the air).

Use case:
When printing tall objects with almost no support on the base, the object needs to really be stuck to the base or else it may topple over during the print. For example. we were printing this ocarina.

There isn't a flat spot on the whole instrument, so we use zero contact supports (xy and z) and "force supports for the first 30 layers" to weld the egg shaped bottom of the instrument to the print bed.

The print above was accomplished after using Slic3r PE v1.33.8.

If Slic3r v1.34.1 is used with the exact same settings, this is the resulting base:

Note that there is no brim around the support material under the mouthpiece, nor is there any skirt around it either. That is because the support structure under the mouthpiece starts on layer 2.

Hopefully this information will help the developers to find the bug. If any additional info is needed, I am happy to help.

Thanks again!

- Brad
