Octoprint timeout with ColorPrint 2 colour job

Has anybody else had an issue printing Colorprint code files via Octoprint?

I printed one yesterday just fine, when the filament change went smoothly. Today, I had issues getting the filament change to feed so it took longer than normal. When the MK2 moved back to the point it should have continued the print, it just stopped.

When I went back to my Octoprint session, it was reporting a communications timeout and the print was ruined 🙁

As per PjR's suggestion here: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/simplify3d-print-settings-august-30-2016--t938-s30.html

did you add M600 to the list of long running commands in Octoprint Settings > Serial > Advanced?

Thanks for the response. I haven't changed those settings but looking at mine now (I only upgraded to 1.3 this morning) M600 is already on the list. The only one that wasn't was G80 which I have now added.

Stephen

You may also want to increase the timeout values.

Thanks PJR

What timeout would that be? They only seem to be set to 30 seconds, and last time I printed a multi-colour successfully, it easily took me 3 minutes to change and it didn't timeout then.

Apparently, you received a "communication timeout". I would guess that if you increase the timeout value you may overcome your problem.

It would possibly also help if you increased the value of "Max. consecutive timeouts during long running commands".

Well, this one just bit me, so I thought I would bump it up to a more recent time tag.

I had many successful ColorPrints from the SD card, but never attempted to do one since upgrading to OctoPrint.

Until now. While the printer is waiting for me to replace the filament, it does not respond to OctoPrint, which timed out, canceling the print (from the OctoPi perspective) and there was no way to restart it. 🙁

So I restarted the print from the SD card, and searched this forum, finding this old thread.

Yup, the timeout values in OctoPrint were set small, which caused it. I have set them higher for my next attempt.

Hope this is useful to save someone else some frustration. Fortunately the color change was only 45min into the print, so not a huge loss of time or filament.

You still need to be quick to change the filament though.

Agree completely, but I now have more than 10 seconds to accomplish that (the default setting).

Hopefully I won't have to use it much, as I am hoping my MM upgrade comes soon - Ordered in early January.
