Its a difference to feel brave and be it. Right now i feel brave.
Unfortunately i have to little knowledge in all the gibberish talk about linear advance but..... One can always flash back the 3.0.12 i guess.

I will sit and think a while before ....

Re: New Firmware 3.1.0-RC1

I am using it right now.

Run a few tests for the linear advance feature, found out that our (Filar3D) PLA performs best with K35.
The only issue is that high speeds really affect print quality, and this isnt supposed to happen with Lin Adv.
I will keep changing parameters to find the best settings.
Cheers,

How do i know I'm using Linear Advanced ?

I did put this into the slicer start script.
M900 K45 ; 100mm/s PET

Re: New Firmware 3.1.0-RC1

So you are printing at 100mm/s? Now that's brave...

Unfortunately, we are only given a single value for each material; we therefore have no idea whether to increase or decrease and by how much to adjust that value for different speeds.

That is what i don't get, i have 40mm/sec for my PETg in the slicer. But this goes way faster?

Looks decent so far. Ill shout some pictures soon.

Great !

The e-steps are now stored again. Time to upgrade the firmware as soon as there is a final release and no RC 😉

How do i know I'm using Linear Advanced ?

I did put this into the slicer start script.
M900 K45 ; 100mm/s PET

The onely thing you did by adding that line is setting the K value to 45. The text after the " ; " does absolutely nothing, thast just a text comment in the code.
So you are not printing at 100mm/s. To do that you have to change print speeds in print settings.
Attached are 2 gcode files. Run them both with PLA. One of them test K values from K10 to K90 (10 increments). The other one from K31 to K39 (1 increments).

That way you will be able to know which value of K you should use for your PLA.

use this image to understand the printed result:

I know that is a comment, but i did get the feeling that the print was faster than my standard 40mm/s as i usuay do. I was fooling around with the speed setting 100mm/s but i thought i changed it back.
Quite noticeable is that the perimeter start stop have almost vanished-

I will now kick off another benchy were I'm sure i have the slicer at 40mm/s.

Here are the pics from the first print.

(i only use PETg no PLA at all)

Ok, i have changed the temp values in your test files.
Will run this tomorrow and try to understand 🙂

Thanks for this.

Re: New Firmware 3.1.0-RC1

Are the K-values going to be more or less the same for each user of a given filament (assuming no extruder mods or multi-material)? Or is it going to be individual for each printer?

If they're the same (or really close) we should start a thread or keep a wiki with that info in it.

Examples (fictitious filament names so I don't mess anyone up):
Bob's PLA: 45
Awesome-filament PETG: 53
El-cheapo ABS: 58

Unfortunately, there is no substitute for reading the manual: http://marlinfw.org/docs/features/lin_advance.html

If you intend using this feature, you have to tune the filament and include the correct setting in the Filament G-Code. Each filament will differ slightly and it's also likely that each printer will differ.

Re: New Firmware 3.1.0-RC1

If we switch to the linear advance firmware do we have to use the linear advance feature all the time? Or is it only active if there's a command in the gcode to set the K-value?

Would be nice to still be able to use prusa control or their supplied gcode files (like for the upcoming mk2.5 parts) which I'm sure don't have the K-value setting in them.

The value is retained in memory until it is changed or the printer is reset/power cycled. You could add M900 K0 to start G-code and only change it when you want.

FWIW, I printer a 25mm square tower with values increasing every layer on the MMU; it came up with the best K value of 480. BUT, when I printed the same cube with a constant value of 480, there was significant under-extrusion at the start of the perimeter and after each corner. So it needs a lot of work to get the correct value for the speed, layer height and width with Bowdens.

Re: New Firmware 3.1.0-RC1

got a weird behaviour when accessing sd-cards with a larger number of files (.gcode) on it.
the printer then looses big parts of the content of the directory.
furthermore (when using a card with only a few files on it) the printer behaves a little bit mystic when selecting a file to print, it first seems that the printer ignores the selection, sorts the files again... and when you think you have to select the file again: starts to print.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Hi!

I found some minor inconvenience in the german translation of the firmware. Output in Display in a lot of cases is "Bed".
This is not correct and has to be renamed to "Bett".

Thanks and have fun.

Hi Mathias,

i had a pull request https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/pull/218 for that but i think the priorities are different now so i closed it. They have to fix few things in 3.1.0-RC1 and the new MK3 Einsy needs also some love. Maybe next month i will try again.
If you like checkout https://github.com/3d-gussner/Prusa-Firmware/releases

Re: New Firmware 3.1.0-RC1

I eagerly installed the new firmware (primarily to get file sorting!) and as mentioned earlier this is not quite right - it sorts alphabetically by the looks of it but the time sorting is not even close - I have files at the top of the list I have not touched for months and files just created way down the list??

When I do find a file and select it to print, the list then gets re-sorted, shows a limited number of files with the original selection highlighted and I have to select it again to get it to print??

Seems to re-sort the files at odd intervals, not sure when this is supposed to happen - when new files are added to the card?

At least the alphabetical sort helps (I have a 32Gb FlashAIr card and there are more than 100 files on it probably!)

Interesting reading about the linear stuff, I'll do some experimenting

Chris
