Cura 2.4.0

I would like to try out Cura 2.4.0 in place of Slic3r. I have had great luck with Slic3r, so not completely moving away from it, but I have a .stl that I need to print out and it doesn't seem to complete the slice. I attached the images.

When I import them into Cura they seem to import OK.
I have tried to import and export from fusion360, meshmixer and 123CAD, they load fine, but the export to .stl is jacked. Cura seems like the only route that i know of. I would like to purchase simplify3d but that's a a few paycheck away.

Does anyone have the settings to match up with the Slic3r settings from Prusa? If so can you provide me info on installing them and getting the same or near exact settings. are the provided settings in Cura similar or close. Is there a method to repair the .stl,

Please let me know, i would like to get the file printed.

Re: Cura 2.4.0

Although the file may open and slice in Cura, I have never had great quality models printed by that slicer.

I use KISS for the vast majority of my prints which generates the quality I require and is also free (a paid-for version is available but not needed by most).

The big downside to KISS is that it does take some time to get to know the settings.

Re: Cura 2.4.0

I installed it today and will try some test prints with KISS. I ran a quick xyz test cube on Cura and it came out pretty good. I wanted to try something more complex with it. It seems like they have provided better support with 2.4.0 then previous versions. I like what I have seen so far with Cura and the KISS looks promising. I would definitely donate if it produces good prints.

Are you using the I3 Mk2 with KISS? do you have an .ini I could compare? Any nuances with KISS to watch out for. I was going to go through it tonight more thoroughly and compare it to Slic3r. I have been using that for 95% of my prints except the cube and the Prusa code from Slic3r.

Re: Cura 2.4.0

David

Apologies, I am not here as often as I once was, with all the testing I am currently doing.

With KISS, do not expect to get a good print immediately; it will take many attempts and tuning to get things right, but it is worthwhile.

I can upload my KISS 1.5 parameter files if they would be any help but you would still need to tune to match your printer/filament/environment.

NP, theres plenty to print in between forums replies. 🙂

I would like that, it would be a good comparison. I wanted to compare a good starting point with the Slic3r settings and the CURA settings I have been using with KISS. The KISS while a bit more complicated has given me some really good prints.

That's good to hear!

I have attached KISS 1.5 parameter files; the printer to use is the Mk2 Quad (not MM) but you will need to make some changes to the printer (set to 1 extruder), retraction (set to 0.8 to 1mm) and the start/end GCode which sets PID etc and loads the filament and uses a different priming line at the start/unloads filament at the end.

Please also be aware that I haven't used KISS 1.5 for a couple of months as I am alpha-testing 1.6; any changes I have made have therefore gone into 1.6 which uses a completely different parameter file scheme.
