Z-motors issue

Hello, folks 🙂

I'm having issues with my Z-motors.

I've had this problem for a year, it goes away by itself, but it reappears from time to time and the only solution has been to try to print it again. I've wasted a lot of filament on this!

After a print ruined by this, topping the Z axis reveal that motors are severely skewed, sometimes as much as 15mm, and sometimes much less. It's always the left motor that reach the top first, so at least that is consistent.

Hello Jonn!

To me it sounds as the right z-stepper motor is missing pulses during print. This could be due to a wire that is broken inside the cable to the stepper motor.
Could you print something tall (unload the filament before that - there is no need to print) and wiggle the cable to the stepper motor and see if there are spots on the cable where the motor is missing more or less signals. It could be hard to detect such missing pulses though - but it is worth a try.

If anything, the right motor is correct. The left motor lifts too high, since the layers get separated on the left side.

The problem with troubleshooting this is that it usually works fine, so I might think something has fixed the problem, but it just hasn't shown up again yet.
