You also need a cable tie right where the leads come out of the X motor to strap the X endstop wires, which will stop them fouling the Z movement/end stop.

The pictures were taken after I started to take the harness apart... so most of the zip ties were already removed.

And as for the Z end stop wiring, you will notice that the top bolt affixing the controller to the frame is quite loose, which is why the wiring harness is not in the slot.

I am attaching a picture that was taken before I began taking it back apart. It is hard to see, but there is a zip tie holding the X motor wire and X endstop wires and guiding them into the harness.

I have both the z end stop and Print Fan removed and there appears to be no damage to any of the wires. I will attach pics

OK Ugo, thanks for the clarification. Get the fan motor checked and we will see if we can get any further tomorrow...

The radial fans are also available on eBay and from Oozenest. I have a few spare because they do tend to get clogged with dust.

So the Z endstop is bad. I was offered a replacement but paying to ship the part is not worth it.

I believe these endstops will work as a viable replacement? Does anyone have any experience with these?

Also, the print fan works off of the 9V battery, so I hope the pins on the RAMBo are not damaged....

Hi Ugo

Yes, those endstops should be OK; you will have to remove the lever. I assume the connections will be marked similarly to the existing end stop.

OK, so the fan works with a battery, so it should also work when attached to the RAMBo.

With the fan still away from the printer, connect it onto the FAN2 outlet, with the red wire towards the processor and the black wire towards the heater sockets. You will have to connect up all the other connectors and power, but not a PC at the moment.

Plug in the power, turn on the printer press the LCD button, scroll to support/firmware and check it says 2.2.0. It it does not report this version, then let me know.

Now, my printer is broken at the moment, so I can't tell you the menu options. You need to go to something like settings/fan, scroll the level up to 200+ and press the button. Hopefully the fan will start. If not, then you can try reloading the firmware.

If all the above fails, then you will have to very carefully put a multimeter set to voltage on the FAN2 pins to check the output.

Hi Peter,

Great! thanks for checking on those endstops Peter! 🙂

Both fans are working now. I think maybe the Print Fan connection (fan2) was not pressed down fully on the pins..?
Will the print fan come on automatically during PLA jobs? or will I need to manually turn on to prevent overhangs?

Firmware reports 2.2.0

There is a setting in the Slicer for the part fan.

This should be turned on to maybe 60 to 75 % after printing the first 2 or 3 layers - whatever works for you. I believe that some slicers allow different fan settings for printing different areas (loops, inside, bridging, cooling etc).

However, environmental issues will also need adjusting for, so you use whatever works best for you; the above are a starting point only.

The more I learn about 3d printers and printing, the more I realize that I still have so much more to learn. 🙂

My new end stops arrived today, can't wait to leave work and start working on my printer ❗
