X End Stop Broken?

Hi All,

My X endstop seems to be broken. When I start printing and the extruder moves to the X home position I hear the microswitch click but it doesn't stop, and the extruder housing pushes the endstop back along the rod until it crashes into the Z axis.

I upgraded the firmware to 3.0.3 and it seemed to start happening at the same time, although I also changed the hotend at the same time so it I may have caused it by replacing the hotend wires.

How do I figure out whether the microswitch or connections for the endstop are broken or working as expected? I have a multimeter. How do I know if the wiring is at fault?

The self-test reports everything is OK.

Would the firmware update cause this problem? It appears to be the latest MK1 firmware so I'm sure others would have noticed this...

Any suggestions gratefully received

Cheers,
Steve

If you have a multimeter you can disconnect the limit switch from the MiniRambo and connect the multimeter to it. Check for continuity when you press the switch.

Ok so if I measure resistance with the multimeter across the two microswitch legs, it remains the same (0 ohms) when I press the microswitch. I assume this isn't correct?

Correct; it's not right. The contact used is "Normally Open"; when the sxitch is pressed, it closes and you should see continuity.

Check the free contact; there is a way around the problem if the other contact is OK by amending the firmware.

Hi Peter
Ok firmware changes sound a bit scary. Any idea what type of switch I need to replace it with? Will anything approx the same physical size do?
In general is there a list of components for the i3 MK1 available to make sure replacement parts match the originals?
Cheers

Apologies, I think I got it wrong way round last evening (tired after a day at the farm).

The microswitches are "Normally Closed" and are only open when the button is pressed.

Any microswitch with NC connection will work fine. Some come with a small metal lever and roller which needs removing.

E3D sell them here: http://e3d-online.com/Electrical/Components/Endstop-Microswitches-Omron
