What size gap should be between extruder pulley & bearing

Hi there. When I assembled the extruder I noticed that the extruder pulley and the bearing were about a millimeter from each other. In other words the filament has to fit into a millimeter gap on its way to the nozzle. Does anyone know how distant the pulley should be from the bearing? I got through the self test & calibration but the filament wont go through the pulley/bearing gap; no mater how I adjust the extruder screws. (the screws with the springs that control how tight the bearing presses towards the pulley). The pulley tries to turn but fails.

Many Thanks,
John

If set correctly, the part with the bearing will move away from the bearing as the filament is inserted.

It sound like you have much too much tension on those springs. They are barely compressed with no filament in the extruder (should be about 14mm from the body to the washer.) This is looser than is intuitive for most people.
