Thermistor lead replacement

I had a catastrophic failure with PLA blob around the hotend. I screwed up fixing it and damaged the thermistor leads: ripped one out, all but on the second.

Can this be repaired? How? Can I just solder the leads in? Pictures of a good hotend would be appreciated.

If not, any suggestions on a replacement hotend? I'd like it to be at least as good as the original.

Re: Thermistor lead replacement

Soldering will not work due to the heat.

Thank you. I atctually went with a US supplier of the same part. It gets delivered to me quicker.

Re: Thermistor lead replacement

I had a self test fail with 'heater/thermistor' error - I have ordered a new thermistor from Prusa and paid the same price in postage as the replacement part and then saw the message about getting it from e3d-online.com 🙁

I guess you would have to ut the plug off and resolder the leads, but what about the heat on the solder?

If this does not solve the problem can I get the heater from them? It is advertised as 12v 30w and I thought the Prusa heater was 40w?

The current heater does get hot (ouch) so I am hoping it is alright, same problem, big melted blob got the thermistor leads but I managed to clean everything up by soaking the block in acetone (I got the heater and thermistor out first)

Hopefully the silicone socks I have also ordered might prevent a re-occurance

Chris

RE: Thermistor lead replacement

I am going to splice in a replacement thermistor.
Does it matter which wire goes to which pin?

@ddd-i4

the thermistor is a changing resistor. polarity does not matter.
