support issues

Hi guys,

I finally tested my first print with support, it was pretty easy to remove and everything seems good so far.
I went ahead and printed the following dagger ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2042599 )
I printed it while laying on the bed with lots of support underneath.

The result is pretty disappointing.

The site which was facing up is looking okay. (even it got removed from the support a little bit during the print and started a little bit to bend)
Also the first layer is looking okay. (for support)

But the site of the dagger which was facing to the support is looking horrible.
How is this possible? It doesn't look like that it is support which needs to be removed it should be the first layer of the dagger itself.

Is there maybe an issue with the stl file? (even if slic3r PE didn't mentioned anything)

Right now I'm printing it 90° rotated so it is standing on the bed. We will see how this will end 🙂

Any tips or suggestions are as always ver welcome.

Have a nice weekend and happy printing!

Hi Janik,
What size are you printing this...

the image was tiny when I imported it into Simplify3d

Please see the images below.

Top of print

Bottom of print,

This would probably have turned out better at a lower layer height.

Hey Joan,

thanks for your answer!

I printed it also at 350% or round about 15cm.
layer height was 0.1 mm and printed with 40mm/sec

Yours is looking pretty good compared to mine.

I scaled it up to 450% and printing it while standing.
the second time now - first time it loses adhesion after 50%
But with a brim around it it should stick better.

Attached you can find the gcode of the "problem model".
Maybe it helps.

Hi Joan,

no problem it's not urgent.
The standing print finished in the meantime.
It's just looking amazing.

I'm still printing with the blue PLA from PRUSA Research which came with the printer.
What I'v learned is that the orientation on the bed is pretty important on how your print will look and feel.

But nevertheless even lain down the result shouldn't be that bad.
