Stripped Bed Standoff

I noticed my bed felt a little lose today and after further inspection found that the back right screw that holds the heated build plate to the platform was stripped http://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/7.+PSU+%26+Heatbed+assembly/297 step 11. I talked to support about the possibility of replacing the standoff with something like https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Female-Threaded-Standoff-Pillar/dp/B015A3LL86/ref=sr_1_2?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1501950244&sr=1-2&keywords=m3+5mm+standoff those but support said that the current standoffs are glued to the heated bed. Has anyone had the same problem with the mk2 and how did you go about fixing it?

Another thing I noticed was that the M3 bolts that I had seemed to be slightly smaller than the M3 8R bolts that the manual specifies for that part. I though about trying to use a longer bolt but I am not sure where to purchase one that might work.

Thanks,
Nathan

Re: Stripped Bed Standoff

I ran into the same problem. The standoffs are not glued to the bed, they are just threaded on with a lock washer between them and the bed. Support may have been talking about the captive bolts (the heads of these are actually visible from the top).

I ordered steel 5mm standoffs from Digikey as I was concerned about the longevity of brass ones like you found on Amazon. I wound up replacing all of the standoffs on the bed because while the Digikey standoffs were exactly 5mm, the ones that came off of the bed measured 5.08mm to 5.1mm.

To be clear, in my case it was the threads in the standoff that stripped, not the threads on the bolt coming out of the bed.

Can you share the Digi-Key part number for the correct standoff?

Thanks!

Re: Stripped Bed Standoff

I had the same problem and found that the small screws included (M3x8) for the heatbed are a bit to short. I had stripped just the first few threads and it was enough to not allow me to tighten. I was able to just use some of the spare M3x10mm with washers for the front standoffs. These wont work for the back standoffs as the hex head is to big and interferes with the frame. I ended up buying new M3x10 button head screws for all 4 of the standoffs and now able to attach the bed a lot more firmly.

Re: Stripped Bed Standoff

I was about to buy a M3 x 5mm Female Threaded Brass Hex Standoff Pillar Spacer

Because like many others, mine was stripped just at the end and I couldn't get my m3x8 screw to tightly attach.

Then I realized, why not just reverse the stripped M3x5mm you already have? The stripped part is likely on the very edge, and there is more slack on the screw attached to the heatbed.

Well, wouldn't you know, just reversing it worked fine. Didn't have to buy anything. 😀

Just a really stupid simple heads up that I didn't see anyone else suggesting on this topic.
