Stopped printing after 1 hour

Hi, I just assembled an i3 kit, got everything properly connected and had the printer up and running.
I made the Prusa logo test print and it went just fine. My second print, the dragon @200um though started very nicely up to 17% (1 hour) of printing, then the printer stopped moving.
The power was on, LCD working fine showing the info screen only with no errors, extruder fan working and everything seems fine. I was even able to start a new print after a few minutes (may be after it cooled down a bit?) What could have caused that?

I went to the forums and some people suggested that something overheats causing the board to stop, but I don't know how to know what happens exactly? Would adding a fan to the RAMBO + heatsinks on the ICs help resolve this? Should this even happen at the first place?
I even tried to reduce the temperatures of the nozzle and the bed to check if it is an over heating problem, I put the nozzle at 230 and the bed at 80, this made the printer run for an extra 40 minutes before it stopped again! (check the attached image of the second trial).

I'm also facing a problem with the SD card reader. The SD card adapter that came with the printer never worked, so I replaced it with a new one.
the new adapter worked the first few times, now it gets read sometimes only.

I'd appreciate some help getting the printer to work properly.

Re: Stopped printing after 1 hour

Can you please upload the picture of the connection and wiring close to the motherboard?

Also check if the lcd/sd cables didn't get damaged by tightening the zipties too much.

In the meantime, you should be able to easily print from pronterface and your computer.

I will post the photo of the board tonight.
As for the LCD cables' zip ties, they are not tight, the cables are free to move. I even tried printing before putting the zip ties on the LCD cables.

I have another concern, the SD card reader does not read the card every time, if this happens during a print, can it cause the printer to stop? or does the code get copied to the RAM on the board as a whole?

Anyway, I will try printing from the computer and see how it goes.

Re: Stopped printing after 1 hour

Maybe we have a defective SD reader on the LCD module. Can you verify it by running the same g-code from Pronterface on the computer (be careful, it can't go into sleep mode or autoupdate ...) if so, we can ship you a replacement LCD module 🙂

Hello Josef,
I connected my printer to the computer and tried printing the same file. It worked! for 7 hours.
Then I guess it was an SD card reader issue.
But as you see in the images below, the print did not finish properly, can you tell me what might have went wrong?

Adalinda from ABS is a B***H especially from black one, she prints the best from PLA. The wings are super thin and can break easily 🙁 But we have confirmed the LCD/SD + cables are to blame. I am moving this ticket to my support staff to arrange a replacement 🙂

Well, I still need to experiment with PLA. But because I'm mostly interested in printing mechanical parts, I prefer ABS.
Where can I find tips regarding temp/speed settings for different materials/colors?

And thank you in advance for the LCD replacement.
