Should there be a spare PEI sheet in my kit?

I just got my kit and started the construction. I notice there is no spare PEI sheet. Yet in all the review of the printer show there is one and I have seen the spare mention here in the forums as well.

From what I've read elsewhere, early units had an extra PEI sheet, but as inventory got tight, Prusa Research stopped including the extra PEI sheet. I don't think it is on the BIll of Materials, so those who received it should consider it a gift.

As far as the candy goes, I think Jo mentioned they regularly buy all the stock in town, and no one wants to hold up the printer shipment for a bag of candy!

Those gummibears are for eating?! I thought that was my replacement PEI. I've been melting them down on the stove using a cookie sheet, and cutting out squares to lay on my print bed. My prints have been sticking well, and they come out delicious! 😉

I didn't get a spare sheet with my MK2 early upgrade. I did however purchase one from another source. The damage to my PEI is in the top right part of the printbed, an area I will not go often so I have not changed it yet. Several top right corner levelling issues that ground the PEI sheet with the hotend in the past, involving me hitting the power kill switch. It should never have happend.

Re: Should there be a spare PEI sheet in my kit?

I managed to screw mine up on my first calibration - I just ordered a whole new print bed. I was not aware I could replace the film at the time.

Does anyone know where I can get a spare sheet? I looked on amazon.ca and I found this:

https://www.amazon.ca/Polyetherimide-Natural-Standard-Tolerance-Thickness/dp/B0013HKZTA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478189144&sr=8-1&keywords=pei+sheet

Not sure if it's the same.

There is also this:

https://www.amazon.ca/Lulzbot-KT-HB0000-LulzBot-TAZ-Sheet/dp/B018G59B82/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478189144&sr=8-2&keywords=pei+sheet

And I am pretty sure it is the same but the price is out to lunch considering I replaced the whole print bed for $60USD (total was $120CND with exchange/tax/duty/shipping+brokerage fee).

However I would like to fix my old bed to have a spare, if it's not too expensive to fix. Would have been nice to get a spare sheet with the kit, I did get the candies though. 😀

Re: Should there be a spare PEI sheet in my kit?

My favorite source for PEI sheets for the MK2 and other printers is from CS Hyde Company. Someone else made a thread about this months ago. The size I typically go with is 9.02x10.12 and then cut it down. Prusa also sells a replacement PEI on their shop, but it is usually out of stock.

Dimensions PNG

and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.

Thanks. Much more reasonable prices.

Printing PETG, if you're not careful to set your z offset every time it can get stuck so tight that you risk damaging the surface. At least that's how I did it 🙁

I had a couple close calls with PETG before I recently saw that it is recommended to put down some glue stick as a separator. Have you tried the glue stick, I have not yet done so and I'm curious if it helps at all?
