Removing thermister cartridge from hotend

Hi folks,

I had a print failure and aside from all the filament blobs stuck to the hotend, one of the thermister wires broke. I removed most of the filament blobs, but I am unable to remove the thermister cartridge to replace it. I removed the grub screw underneath the thermister, but I think that some blobs may yet be holding it in. There is a hole on the opposite side side of hotend from the thermister wires. I tried pushing from there with a nail punch, but I'm not sure whether that goes all the way through to the thermister.

Before I disassemble the hotend and use a heat gun, any advice on how to remove the broken thermister?

Thanks!

Phil

That hole does go all the way through. Do all this at temperature (CAREFULLY) so the plastic is soft - or use a heat gun to soften the plastic.

Thanks. Yeah, the extruder must be disassembled before blasting it with a heat gun. For anyone else pondering whether it can be removed without disassembling the extruder, it's a definitive NO. Don't even try. It's held in very firmly by melted filament and no amount of whacking it with a nail punch will free it without damaging the hotend. Similarly, blasting the extruder with a heat gun will melt other parts around it.
