Rambomini heat bed port fried - Can I just order a replacement from Ultimaker?

I've disassembled my Mk1 and was going to solder the heatbed leads to the back of the Rambo board. Since I'm going to have to eventually replace the board when I do the MK2 upgrade, I'm thinking I might just replace the board now.

Prusa appears out of stock for the Rambomini, and in looking at the Ultimaker shop, it looks like I could get it with a wiring kit for about the same price, and save shipping from overseas (I'm in the states).

Any issue with just getting a replacement from Ultimaker? I'm assuming I'd have to flash the firmware.

Hi,

I guess you mean Ultimachine. On the page for the mini rambo 1.3 ( https://ultimachine.com/products/mini-rambo-1-3 ) they wrote::

NOTE: If purchasing this board as a replacement for one received in another distributor's printer kit, please leave an order note upon checkout regarding your printer's name/version/distributor details. We may need to install custom pins or firmware compatible for your printer. Thank you!

So I guess just ask them.

Would be nice if you could write about the outcome here, this might be very helpful for other user.

BR

Correct. ultiMachine.com

In talking with Prusa support it looked like shipping would be another $40 US, so I ordered a miniRambo kit (with mechanical switches and the plug I'll need to replace) from ultiMachine.com. My plan is to use some of the other parts from the wiring kit in my D-Bot build and drop the miniRambo into my Prusa MK1 so I can start cranking out D-Bot parts for that build.

Firmware flashing instructions look clear enough. I'm assuming I can flash the board when I get it and then do the install into the Prusa. That would make it easier all around.

I'll report back on the rest of the experience once I get the replacement.

So, I received my miniRambo from Ultimachine. Since I'm in Kansas and they are in Tennessee, it got here in no time. I ordered the $120 version with the wiring harness w/mechanical switches. (you can order a "bare" version for $110). I went with the wiring harness because: One - I needed the heater bed plug, and Two - I can usethe other parts in my D-Bot build.

Looking at all the heavier power wires, I noticed that they were capped with wire ferrules. Since I had cut off my existing ends in the solder attempt, I thought it might be a good idea to replace those ferrules before installing the new board.

That was a bit of an expense - $10 for 100 insulated 16 AWG ferrules PLUS $40 for a four-way crimping tool. the 16 AWG ferrules were just about the right size, if anything they were just a tiny bit too small. Once I twisted the new bare ends they fit in the ferrule snuggly. After they were all crimped I went back through the install manual hooking up all the electronics.

NOTE: Before de-installing the board, I had taken a few pictures of the board wiring and I had tagged every wire using a P-touch label maker (note 2: those tags may come loose, so after attaching them, seal them with scotch tape just to be sure). Between my pictures and the manual, everything went back as it was before.

After that, I flashed the firmware with the latest from Prusa and everything came back up. The firmware is actually more advanced that what I had previously, so that was a good thing.

WIth the new firmware, I went through the self-test and everything came back OK.

Right now, I'm printing a test cube, but everything seems to be back normal, Thankfully!

hi ray, thank you for the update about the rambomini !

by the way: crimped wire end ferrules are much more reliable than soldered wire ends.
