Prusa branded Slicer release date?

Couple of weeks before I have read that a dedicated control and slice software for Prusa is on its way and it was claimed that beta version might be available untill christmass. 😀

Has any one got any news about it?

One was already released. It's version is 1.31.6. and it's the Prusa edition. Release date was 28.11.2016.

You can find it at prusa3d.com/drivers

The purpose of the Prusa Control software is to bring up a Slic3r wrapper with a crystal clear interface: To provide a software to a beginner, which would allow him to be productive immediately without falling into traps of miss-configuring the Slic3r and printing junk.

Thank you for the effort. It reinforces my decision to choose Prusa as my entry into the world of 3D printing.

As a software developer, not working on Prusa control, or even at Prusa research, I can tell you the exact release date anyway:

When its done.

See? Does that help?
No?

Well. If its any consolation, my boss thinks the same, and still gets this answer.
Because its the only answer thats true.

Sometimes, when I feel nice, I'll roll some dice, and add a couple of weeks for good measure, and tell her that.
Usually makes her happy, no idea why.

Its about as accurate as any other method and well, until a time machine is invented, its the best she's going to get. 🙂

As a software company owner, all I can say about your statement is your company does not have any customers, or you are working in an unmanaged team.

When its done is not an answer for the deadline of a software project. I assume you have knowledge about agile developement methodology...

I am asking because I don't want to spend 150bucks for S3D, if it is soon enough for me I will wait. 🙂

The company does have customers, what it doesn't have is more than 5 software developers.
What its also doesn't have is repetetive projects.

We work with 2 people on one project (sometimes only one) which is something new, that we have not done before.
No one can accurately estimate how long something takes you have not done before.

I can tell you how long it will take me to set up a small web-app. Because I did that, its a mostly standard task, nothing complicated. Can be estimated fairly accurately because it is a known task.

Developing a service (daemon) that talks to some new in-house developed hardware and an yet un-used 3rd party API?
No Idea. Because most compnents will be something I have never touched.
If pressed for numbers, I will roll dice.

If you really own a software company, tell me how often your projects are on time? How often is this date revised during development?

And btw, agile software development was invented by software developers tired of having to tell people made up mumbers.
That process is designed to NOT have a release date that goes beyond the current iteration.

Sorry for the wall of text, its a pet peeve of mine. 🙂

Also, for inevitable comparisons to engineering and building stuff, same thing.

We are allways on time for the release, improving and bug fixing never ends.

Don't be mad at customers or other non technical people who are allways demanding. Nature of the business....

You probably have contracts and penalty clauses. I don't remember having signed any as a Prusa customer, so I also tell you, we'll have the software "when it's ready".
