Printer Restarting when Heating Bed

Hey Guys.

My printer isn't a kit (sorry, is this the wrong place to post?), but the fully assembled one.

Once i got the printer, before I tried anything, I updated to the latest software update (didn't check if it was already on it before updating ), and it updated successfully...easy.

Once done with the update, After trying to preheat the printer with any of the presets or manually preheating the printer bed specifically causes the LCD to shut off and the machine resets. The red light on the bed will flash for a millisecond and ittl just crash and reset, and it wont preheat after it resets. Manually heating extruder is fine. I've been manually heating extruder and leaving bed at 0c for printing PLA, and so far all is good, but how can I get my bed working?

What is going on?

Thanks!

Hi Alex

Welcome to the forum.

This same issue has been raised by others and the solution for them was to set the correct voltage on the PSU.

These printers are tested @230V and then shipped out. I guess you have a 110/120V mains supply? If so, you need to change the switch. It's on the side of the PSU, but the switch is not quite aligned with the slot. The switch is there, you just have to look very carefully.

Have a look through the other couple of threads talking about this, it seems you may be have the bed shorting due to the washers on each corner touching the surfaces is. If you take out the 4 corner screws completely and try it, see if that fixes it for you. If it does, just put something for insulation between them and the bed. I was in the same boat 🙂

Gosh, changing the switch did it lol. I guess I didn't search the threads hard enough. Either way, thanks so much for your reply! Appreciate it.

One last thing I wanted to make sure of, Peter. I did a couple prints on the "wrong" voltage, is that fine? Hopefully I didn't cause any damage.

Alex

You will not have done any damage. a 110V mains supply into a 230V PSU will generate half the voltage at the output end.

Therefore, you had been driving the printer at only 6 volts. The voltage drop caused when you turned on the heater meant that the processor voltage dropped below the 4.5V required and this triggered the reset.
