Printer Problem: New Slic3r Settings are too fast for 3mm hot end; Sloppy prints

Hi, I'm having an issue with the new Slic3r settings. I noticed that speeds have been increased and prints are now very, very sloppy. With the old settings, although the prints take longer, were detailed and nicely printed. Now, all of my prints with both PLA and ABS are not printing anywhere near as before. This may be because it is so fast, that it is not allowing the layer to cool down before starting the next layer. I have tried printing up to 4 of the same prints at the same time in order to allow it to cool and it is still not working as well.

It really seems that the focus now is on the 1.75mm nozzle and the old 3mm nozzle is a thing of the past. I would appreciate any suggestions on this, please.

Thank you.

Hi Dennis

The slicer settings provided by Josef really are only a starting point for you to use to experiment with in order to get better prints.

You should understand that every printer is different. It's been built by different people, using different parts and is being used in different environments. All these things determine how your printer operates.

I have spent many months learning about 3D printers and everything associated with them. I found to best slicer for me, learned how to use that and am now printing some rather nice objects. 3d printing is still a new technology; it's not just a one button operation, it's a whole new learning process.

If you think Josef's settings are too fast, change them. Find out what works for you.

Regarding the filament used, I suggest you have a read of Josef's blog here: http://prusaprinters.org/prusa-i3-is-now-1-75-mm/

Thanks Peter. I understand that. I have lowered the speed of the prints and have been getting better results. Still need to tweak it a bit more. I appreciate it.
