Printbite problems and now kicked off FB Prusa group

Last night I ranted about the problems I was having with prints sticking to the new Printbite sheet I put on my MK2S. I hope it's ok to speak freely here about the trials and tribulations of things related to this fabulous printer.

I hope anyone that reads this can find the thread on the FB group that I'm talking about and see why. I bet it was deleted or partially deleted.

To summarize that discussion I was upset that there were no instructions included with the Printbite and then after finding instructions they mentioned using acetone and also mentioned not using certain products as if some people might using brake fluid and other weird products. My whole point was quickly shot down as I showed my frustration and no one else felt I had a leg to stand on. Even though my bottle says acetone that doesn't mean the purest. I get that. So that might be the whole problem because I used a product that included bitrex which may not evaporate from the surface. I used soapy water as instructed by Jason and that still didn't help so I proceeded to offer my side of the story which no one had any sympathy over. I am a reasonable person but there were a few posts asking me if I would put diesel in my car (assuming it's a gas engine). That's how unsympathetic it went.

Anyway, I may be reading and/or posting here and just want to put this out there that I'm sincere and want to understand.

Well, I guess there's Acetone and then there's nail varnish remover. The latter may contain oils which can prevent the model sticking.

I have no idea about Printbite; I just use the included PEI sheet which works very well when cleaned with Ethanol (IPA not available here) and an occasional clean with acetone to refresh the PEI stiction.

You can use whatever you want to clean the bed; some cleaners are more effective than others; I guess that soap and water would do a decent job as long as there's no residue.

But one thing's for sure; you may be told here that your idea is not a good one, but you certainly won't have your posts removed (unless you decide to start spamming),

That's fair. I'm figuring out the intention and terminology of things as they relate to 3d printing.

Well, this is a good place to ask any questions you have. There's loads of people here with a lot of knowledge and very willing to help. But always try to be as explicit as possible; we really don't have mind-reading powers - yet!

I just took the printbite off. No matter if I increased temps, z, speed and scrubbing the bed surface with real acetone helped my PETG prints much. Thankfully the glue came of with it and a new PEI went back on. Printing PETG just fine now. I don't get what the problem was but that's my experience with printbite.

Yeah, there's very few (if any) people on here moved away from the PEI in favour of PrintBite.

Personally, I find that PEI just works as long as you keep it clean and refresh occasionally with Acetone and you have the LiveZ set correctly.

I do find that the profile of the bed changes over time, so when I start to loose first layer adhesion and acetone doesn't work, it's back to the calibration squares.

I'm using the matte black Printbite+ on my MK2 at the moment, I've had not trouble with prints lifting when printing with PLA, PETG and ASA. I usually up the bed temps by 5°C and also up the extruder's first layer temp by as much as 10°C (for PLA's) on first layer. My first layer speed is 30mm/s (only if I've gone up 10°C, otherwise for PETG and Flexi its +5°C and 20mm/s) and the remaining layers are set to 60mm/s (PLA) or 40mm/s.

I am using the MK2-X frame mod, so you might have to stick with slower layer speed.

When the PrintBite works, it's fantastic, For everything but the Flexi PLA, once the bed it fully cooled down you can just lift them off - they aren't stuck to the bed at all. I'm considering using PrintBite on my MK3 when it arrives, I just need to find somewhere to source some spring steel sheet and for Prusa to release the DXF of the bed. Depends on how good the new bed is at removing parts with the PEI.

I'm sorry you were unhappy, i tried big time to assist. In the end your continued aggressive slanderous attitude got yo booted despite others trying to assist you.

I also tried to assist extensively, you took no notice, ignored advice, tried to blame it on a lack of instruction + other excuses and continued your tirade. If you cant download instructions from the very same page that you bought the product, then what hope is there.

A mod deleted the thread due to your aggressiveness, and not upon my request. FWIW asked a mod to let you back in but they refused due to your behaviour.

There are many many happy users of PrintBite, and some of them were trying also to help you.

"hey this isnt working what might be going wrong?" might get more mileage and better result.

It is well known how infuriating 3D can be, so ill just put it down to a bad day as we all have them although posting about the place pushes the boundaries of doubt and judgement. Peace.

What exactly is the purpose of this post? It has been six weeks and you're dragging this up? You accuse him of slander but any proof has been conveniently deleted. I was looking to replace the PEI sheets I have been using on my 12"x12" non-Prusa printer but will now look at something other than PrintBite. Thanks for helping me decide to shop somewhere other than your company.

I was just trying to put the record straight. Yes it was a little while back, but I have only just seen it. Maybe yes let sleeping dogs lie.

Perhaps the wording of the post was a little too harsh and could have been softer. I put a lot of effort into trying to assist, where others might not have given a hoot. I did also state that we can all have bad days, to perhaps offer an olive branch or send the message to James say I hold no grudge or ill feel about it. Also to clarify that I did try to get him reinstated in the group.

Its cool Richard, we all slip up occassionally, no one perfect, peace out 🙂
