Print fan not working

So just finished building my kit and so far I am impressed. I had a 3dmicro printer and this printer is so much faster and better quality. But, I am having an issue with the print fan (the blower fan) which is not turning on during PLA prints. I just finished a 3 hour + print and it never turned on. So I went into settings then to temperature and then to fan speed and it didn't turn on when I changed the settings there. Is that the correct way to manually check the fan? I did happen to have some pin connectors laying around so I connected the fan 12 v power and it seems to be working fine. I have checked the wiring several times and I hope it is correct. Any one have any suggestions?

Re: Print fan not working

Hi Max

Best way to check the part fan is to use a 9V battery, but you have already checked it with a 12V supply, so that's OK.

When you set the fan speed from the knob on the LCD, you first turn the knob to select the speed, and then you press the knob to activate the setting. This last bit is what is usually missed out. If it still doesn't work it's most likely the orientation of the connector that's wrong.

When printing, the part fan should turn on after the 2nd or 3rd layer, but will only do so if it is set to turn on in the slicer. Best way to check whether the fan turns on is to print one of the supplied PLA gcode files. If that works, then you have to look at your slicer to ensure you have the fan turned on at a specific height. Usually you would set the fan to 70+%. It may not have sufficient power if set to 50% or less.

Thanks for the advice. For some reason after checking it with the external power supply and reconnecting the fan it now magically works. Maybe I didn't push the connector down all the way or something. It's all good now. Thanks again! I am really enjoying this printer and having a heated bed makes things so much easier.
