Print error questions

Hi

I've recently built my Mk2 and it's been working pretty well. Last few prints however have failed.

I printed part of a box from thingiverse - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1735223 . Here the clasp on the box was printed badly.
and the classic Benchy boat http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:763622 . Here the cabin printed very badly about half way up.

In both cases I seem to be getting underextrusion or some other issue in one particular area while the rest of the print seems fine. I have printed the Benchy boat three times and the issue is the same each time. I even rotated the model 90 degrees and resliced. It was slightly better but not much.

Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong here? Is it a slicer issue?. I am using the Prusa Slicer software. I am using the stock Prusa PLA using 200nm setting in Slicer using Prusa settings.

Any help gratefully received.

Re: Print error questions

Hi Peter,

As you already said, this looks like underextrusion to me too.

I had this a couple of times and i have some idea what could cause this:

1. Where does your filament come from (top of the printer? from the bottom, from an airtight case ?)
-> This could lead to strange angles in the extruder hole and the motor might has problems with continouus pulling filament in....

2. Redo your Extruder idler screws. A lot! I had to put mine 3 or 4 times out of the caseing and redone them, now i luckily hit the sweet spot and it works.

3. Clean your hotend. If in dobt clean also the heatbreak and switch to a new nozzle. I had this problem twice now and it seems for me only a new nozzle did fix it...

4. I remeber a forum post about prints failing at a specific height. If nothing else helps check that.

5. Tighten your belts 🙂

Hope this helps and hopefully resolves the issue 🙂

Re: Print error questions

Thanks for the response.

I downloaded and tried the Benchy print with Simplify 3d - and the print came out fine. I think it's a slicer issue therefore. The height of the problem was different between the Benchy print and the box lid so I don't think it was an issue with a particular height. The filament comes from a spool on the top in the standard way.

I am going to try the box lid with Simply 3d and see how it goes.

Thanks

Pete
