Nozzle will not get hot enough

I'm having some major frustrations with this kit.

I built it, calibrated and had it working last week. Then I got a clog in the heat sink. It was right in the middle and heating the unit and pulling the filament would not unclog it. So I dissassembled the heating unit. I cleaned the nozzle and heat sink. Now I put it back together and if I try to preheat - the nozzle will only get to 107 degrees (not 215).

Customer support suggested that I screwed up the wires. The wires looked very weak before so I tried to be extra cautious. This is a picture of the wires right now: http://imgur.com/a/fRnSD

See the bare wire exposed? It was like that when I got it. I almost contacted support about it - but the printer worked. I'm not sure if this is normal, if there is a problem or not here.

They sort of suggested replacing the heating cartridge. I could not get a definitive plan of action to fix this. Should I replace the entire cartridge with this spare http://shop.prusa3d.com/en/mk2-spare-parts/122-e3d-40w-heater-cartridge.html ?

Would this be the natural first step from this point on?

Re: Nozzle will not get hot enough

I have never seen a nozzle stick out that far... That should not cause the issue you describe, but it certainly is an issue that something is wrong. Did you install it at temperature? Could this be a nozzle for a Volcano not an E3D v6?

A few things to try and check.
1) Is the thermal couple connected well to the heat block? It is held in place with a small set screw. If that is loose, the thermistor will read low, but the block could be very hot (TOO hot - since it does not know the correct temperature).

2) Can you use a non-contact thermometer to measure the temp of the heat block? If it is different than what the PRUSA is measuring the issue is with the thermistor.

3) Have you checked the fuses?

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…

RE: Nozzle will not get hot enough

My mini is not getting hot enough. When I start a print, reaches temp to perform bed leveling (at 170c). One printer performs bed leveling starts to heat up. I reaches temperature (215c) and starts to print, everything looks great but after a few layers, temperature drops to 170c to 180c and after that the print looks like if the printer was under extruding. It took me a few tries till I notice what was happening. I thought that the heater was going bad and I order a new one and still doing the same thing. Should I replace the thermistor? its reading the temperature, room temperature is at 27 same as my prusa MK3.

What should I do?

RE: Nozzle will not get hot enough

I have replaced the Heater, thermistor and heater block and still not getting hot enough. I am staring to suspect that it is the buddy board. Any ideas, anyone?
