Nozzle touching print after 2 hours

So I did get my printer printing largely thanks to stephan.k, but now a different problem has cropped up and after a dozen or so failed prints (usually after at least an hour or two into the print...with 1 successful print in the middle somehow) I found at least a good example what the problems appears to be:

1.) the bumps on the side of the part..they're regular but don't appear to completely match the infill? As in some would fit the infill pattern extended out too far, but most would be in empty space in the infill if the pattern continued.
2.) (the biggie) occured in all the failed prints, as the sound while not next to the printer was the same (good ol' gear slipping horrible noise) the 'bump' on the top layer had the nozzle hit it and shifted the next layer (I heard it sitting right next to the printer and powered it off rather rapidly)
3.) Tried to calibrate my extruder, thinking it might be overextrusion, but when I moved the extruder 100mm via settings (and marking at 150mm), it only moved approximately 95.67mm through...where do I put this? (complete newb when it comes to the printer, not helped with neither pronterface nor repetier wanted to find it when I plugged it into my 10-port usb hub)

The blobs on the outside look like they are due to the Slic3r setting: "External perimeters first" with "Seam position: Random".

Try to get a good photo of the top of a failed print, that could help narrow down what happens.

There are many ways in which blobs gradually build up, until they land on the top, harden, and then stop the nozzle.

More details about the object, materials and setting are required.

And nothing beats careful observation of the printer, with magnifying goggles, to figure out what goes wrong.

You have a good chance of working it out, because you problem appears to be repeatable. 🙂
