noob questions

Hi,

I'm pretty new to 3D printing and I am experiencing some smaller issues.
I started a print today which is very hard to get right. it has come out decent but its a bit 'molten' on the edge of the tube. (attachement)

I also have some issues with oozing which I'm not sure is normal or not. when i start preheating, it immediately starts oozing.
When the print starts it's missing like 20 procent of the first layer of skirt. Between movements there are some spiderwebs which i guess is from the oozing.

would be really nice iIf anyone could help me with these issues !
also, I'm using Prusa's silver PLA at the standard filament settings in slic3r.

Thanks !
Dirk

Re: noob questions

What have you printed that went well?

This will help sort out is the basics are right.

Also, what is that object, what should it look like if it had printed perfectly?

Re: noob questions

I'm trying to make a small door, consisting of two seperate prints.
I tried to slower the print and tweaked a few settings, it's come out better but not perfect.
Also, because the bottom is not flat i had to start with support material, that's why it looks a bit messy on the edges...

seems like an overhang issue ?

Re: noob questions

That is not an easy object, and difficult to be certain what is going wrong.

There are known test objects that are designed to be difficult and show clearly when the printer is not working properly.

If you spend a few hours printing them, for example the "Benchy", then you could get a lot of advice and most of it would be correct.

Does the part that is poorly printed, the hinge (or is it the pin) get printed last? In that case I think you are printing too fast for the layer duration. The previous layer has not cooled before the next gets deposited, and it all melts.

You can tell the printer to slow down selectively when the layer time is low, I almost routinely leave that setting in so I don't forget. And what I'm printing often ends in a small tip after many hours of printing, so it could stuff up the print at the last moment.
