Re: NEW FW - long filename autoscrolling

Hi Josef

After testing this new firmware over the weekend, I have to report that the problem is still present.

It seems to start as soon as I issue commands to the printer via OctoPrint and will only recover following several resets via the front panel button or a power cycle.

Occasionally it will (slightly more often than before, but that is only a "feeling") recover by itself.

I still think that this is something to do with serial comms occurring at the same time as LCD comms causing the latter to go out of sync. It maybe that reducing LCD comms (rather than increasing via additional refreshes) may be more beneficial.

We are deploying the farm controller this week (Basically simpler Octoprint) for 40 printers so I should be able to test this out.

Josef

I think it highly unlikely that you will discover an issue with your printers; this issue seems limited to a very small group of users.

I note that there is quite a variety of LCD controller chips and the controller may also have a contributory factor.

Re: NEW FW - long filename autoscrolling

I had it happen once to me as well this weekend. The printer was sitting cool and idle, but I did have it connected to my OctoPi which was just sending M105 queries.

It did correct this time when I pressed the reset button, which it hadn't done previously.

Re: NEW FW - long filename autoscrolling

Hi Roger

I started a print last evening. As soon as I sent preheat commands from OctoPi, the LCD scrambled.

This morning, after 15 hours of the print, the screen is the same. I have no idea how many layers have been printed. The GCode file is 72MB so I cannot find out from the GCode viewer. The print does appear to be about 3mm tall (layer 30 - 0.1mm layers) with about 2mm still to go.

All I do know is that OctoPi is telling me that there is still about 20MB to print and that the time remaining is approximately 4 hours.

Bottom line is that the display fix in this version does not appear to have worked. It would be a real PITA if I had to do a filament change...

Interesting. The print finished after 18 hours and 20 minutes. I turned on the print fan to cool the bed quicker then when at just under 40 degrees, I turned it off.

The LCD display then returned to normal within 5 minutes of the "Fan Off" command being sent from OctoPrint. It has now been stable for over 10 minutes.

Peter

EDIT: As soon as I started the next print, I have scrambled LCD again...

LCD cable routing issue perhaps?

I've not had any LCD issues thus far (~24 hours of print time).

Hi

No, unfortunately not. If you look at previous posts, this seems to be some sort of communication issue with "lost nibbles".
