Moving axes without grinding
Hi guys!
I have a question. Sometimes I go into the settings menu to move the axes manually. (Say if I want more convenient access for cleaning the heatbed or changing filament.) But sometimes I notice that in order to move an axis in one way, I have to move it the other way and grind it. For example: Say I want to move the z axis down. I go into the option to move it down, but it doesn't go as far down as it can, close to the heatbed. It stops somewhere in the middle. To get it to go all the way down, I have to take it up, and I have to tell it to go up the maximum distance, until it's grinding against the top of the printer, making a worrying noise. I worry that this would damage the printer over the long run.
How can a guy move the axes of his Prusa printer without grinding it?

Auto-home first, then all the axes will move the full distance in either direction.

Thanks Peter. I did auto-home now, but it moves all the axes to the home (i.e. extruder all the way down and left and forward.) This can be a problem if I have a finished print on the bed. The extruder might travel right through the print, breaking it. Is there a solution that avoids this problem?

Well, when you start a print, the first thing the printer does is an "Auto Home", so there is no point in doing it again unless you cycle the power. If you do that, then remove the part and then do an auto-home.
The (0,0,0) position is the point where the extruder is immediately after a power cycle. The only way to move the extruder to negative coordinates from that point is to physically move the axes by hand or using auto-home.
