MkII kit parts quality, what was your experience?
Hi,
a general question, how was your experience with the kit pars quality, I mean the 3D printed parts, as I honestly believe there will be no issues wit the mechanical or electronic's part as they have a separate QA proof.
Saw this video:
and got be a bit concerned, the main reason I go for the kit is to have a reliable "ikea" style kit, where you assemble but not play mechanic, like drilling, etc. so I got a bit concerned, my piece will arrive in a few weeks, and so I'm curious, what was your experience is it a exception, that the guy in the video had to drill holes, where holes should be, that he had to even change parts? Honestly this will be my first printer, not sure I would be able to do the bearings part he did.
I do expect at least some level of quality control on the parts, just let me know what am I to prepare my self for.
Thanks
Daniel
Re: MkII kit parts quality, what was your experience?
The 3D printed parts have been fine on my kit (delivered mid october), known issue have been fixed I guess. No drilling or filing neccessary.
I was less happy with the bearings supplied in my kit.. If you want, you could get some spare bearings beforehand and swap them right there during assembly. (even though its no big deal to wait and swap them later if it turn out to be really neccessary).
Anyway, don't worry too much, even things like swapping out bearings are fairly easy and theres video tutorials for it on youtube if you end up needing it..
I am a complete idiot when it comes to putting Ikea stuff together, never assembled a printer myself and i had no problems with the kit (and i even swapped the bearings and rods). I actually enjoyed it.

Good to hear 🙂
what bearing have you used? I mean swapped them for. Is that a big difference?
Actually, buying improvements now might be a good idea.

I really would suggest building the printer as stock; troubleshooting will be simpler and then you can decide for yourself what you want to change.

I wouldn't worry too much, and would build as supplied. Just make sure that you read the instructions for each step properly before starting, its easy to get ahead if yourself and make a mistake. If you follow the instructions, everything should be fine. (I built mine a couple of weeks ago) I did have an ever so slight issue with the part labelled x-carriage as the section the belt came out of was slightly too large to be able to tension the belts properly, they shipped another one and another belt just in case and an extra bag of gummies.
I would get yourself a cheap set of calipers if you don't have one, they are pretty important as you measure things going forward anyway and also a good metal straight edge. I used that to ensure my heated bed was also very flat.
I think I suffered your same anxiety, spent a lot of money...had a lot of worry, but have printed some great things in the first two weeks already, and when I load ABS, I print a spare part of as well now, place it to one side just in case. its good experience just printing things and getting to know your printer and even more importantly your filament, As I find a setting for the filaments I have, I add them to Slic3r so I can easily print with a few changes depending on what I am printing..
Look forward to the learning

Re: MkII kit parts quality, what was your experience?
I rebuilt my Mk1 into a Mk2,
that required me to drill out two holes...
Prusa did provide a drill bit and a plastic piece to turn it with, I have to say I cheated and used an electric drill.
otherwise, no problems
apart from a faulty thermistor. which has been replaced.
in the short term, I used the thermistor off my Mk1 set

Re: MkII kit parts quality, what was your experience?
As Joan said above. I had little issue with upgrading my Prusa MK1 Printer bought two weeks before the MK2 launch. The parts were good after I had to pay for the upgrade. My only gripe. The evangelist Peter (PJR) answerd my problems with my MK1 with Mk1 answers knowing full well about the alleged MK2 upgrade, which he did not mention. He defended the MK1 up to the day the MK2 launched. So Peter (PJR) is a person I take with a pinch of salt and throw over my shoulder, and say 3 hail Marys and Allahu Akbar. I am an atheist so can say what I like, its the safest place to be, ie non religeous.
