MAXTEMP / MINTEMP Error

Hi, I've just finished building the printer and now I have this error. All other functions seem to work fine. (Motors and other connections seem to be all correct.)

The printer starts and immediately comes up with the MAXTEMP error if the extruder temp sensor is connected and it shows MINTEMP if not.
I measured about 2 Ohms.

Hi Markus

That looks like a bad thermistor or a short across its leads (either in the connector or heater block).

The thermistor was shorted. The 2 Ohms would be about 730+ degrees centigrade (if it would survive that temperature).

I presume that you have sorted this and that you are now printing?

Today, I built an E3D V6 hot end, with the intention of replacing the Lite6. Have to say that the most difficult part was the thermistor. The fibreglass sleeves kept wanting to move back along the wires. I can now see whey the manufacturers suggest holding the sleeves in place with ferrules.

I made two logo test runs which printed nicely, but the problem with this thermistor is that the isolation is too short and I cannot reliably fix the thing, so I am getting a replacement.

Currently I am trying to figure out how to de-warp the heatbed. It's just extremely warped.

I think you will have problems trying to straighten the PCB heater.

Best I came up with was to loosen the nuts holding the screw in place, allowing the PCB to float a bit. Heat up to 60 degrees and then tighten.

What also helped when printing with PLA was to use blue tape wrapped around the ends of the glass which holds the glass slightly away from the heater. The glass is more level; you could try additional packing to raise the glass edges a tad, so the glass is only touching the heater in the centre.

The heater will not be quite as efficient, but it will allow you the luxury of an almost flat surface. The difference can be catered for with "Bed Roughness" setting (in KISS) or similar in other slicers. Worst case, increase the first layer height by 0.1mm or so.

The alternative is to go to eBay to get a different one (£7.50 or thereabouts) or to see if PR will send you a replacement. Measure how fat out it is and let them make a decision.

I did not suspect the heatbed itself until I rewired the belt, checked the y-axix and the glass. The glass is fortunately completely flat, so I used it to measure the groove. It's about 3mm, which is way too much to flatten by bending or the glass.
The best thing would be a stiff plate under the heatbed which is also a heat isolator - the heatbed would be flattened from two sides and it would also heat up much quicker. This underside could also be glued to it using heat isolating silicone.
The problem is that any replacement heatbed could also be warped.

Yes, you are correct that any heatbed could be warped, but anything you buy must be "fit for the purpose". With a deviation of 3mm, it certainly is not, so please contact PR and advise them. They should be able to find you a heatbed which will work.

The problem with adding a flat surface underneath is that it would increase the mass of the Y axis, which in turn would put additional strain on the motor and lead to inaccurate printing.

I also have an "Afinibot" - Chinese clone which has an aluminium build plate 4.5mm thick. If you could find a piece of aluminium the right size to use instead of the glass sheet, I think that might stand a chance of pulling your existing heater level.

I really do think that your best option is a replacement.

HI Jason, sorry for the late response, I just came back from my trip.
You have to unscrew the thermistor from the hotend and the I suggest to measure it. It should measure about 100k Ohms.

Make sure that the isolation covers the whole thermistor (on my one the isolation was a little too short).

MAXTEMP is shorted thermistor. All nozzles (and all the electrical components) are tested and heated to max temp so the short is usually due to manipulation, mostly it is under the screw on the heaterblock. Just unscrew it, check and screw it back. The insulation is woven fabric when can be stretched or compressed, so please try this first before asking for replacement.

MINTEMP is broken thermistor lead of thermistor itself. In this case, ask for our help thru email or livechat.
