Loud pop while printing, seems to have come from the Rambo enclousre
In the middle of a 6 hour print, I've heard a loud pop sound from the printer (I was sitting next to it). It sounded like when you get a short circuit or a blown fuse. I could swear there was also the smell of burned electronics near the Rambo enclosure that isn't there any more now. I couldn't smell anything around the PSU.
The strange thing is, nothing seems to be affected. The printer keeps on going, both nozzle and bed temperatures are stable, all of the motors seem to work fine, both fans are working...
I've stayed next to the printer until it was finished and nothing happened. I've opened up the Rambo box and I can't find any signs of a short circuit, fuses seem ok, nothing looks burned...
I'm not sure what I should do now. The printer seems to work just as before, but something must have happened.
Has anyone experienced something like this? Is there somewhere else that I should look to?

have you had a peep inside the Rambo case?
you might see something that has let the magic smoke out!
it could be one of the capacitors shown above

Hi Joan, thanks for getting back to me.
I did have a quick look yesterday, but it was hard to see because of all the mess.
I disconnected most of the cables today. I've checked all 3 fuses and they are ok. I can't see any sign of short circuit, black residue, anything. All three capacitors appear normal, I can't see any bulging. Here are a few photos of them:

Hmmm. Most components would cause an oobvious fail.
Little capacitors dont generally cause a bang.
Maybe a reverse protection diode... or an indicator led... they could pop with little effect...

Thank you for your thoughts Joan. Yeah, I'm baffled as well, I would imagine at least something to stop working, but I can't find anything wrong while the printer is working. I'm thinking of replacing the board just in case...

Fiddling with a working printer is likely to result in tears...
Is it time to order the 2.5 kit?

I'm not sure about the 2.5. I wont get a new board with, I already have the Noctua fan and the current extruder works fine. The new bed seems interesting, but I'm not sure if I want to spend that much money just for the bed.

Yeah, I tend to agree with that, but something did happen. I occasionally do prints that take 20+ hours, so I can't watch the printer the entire time. It's hard to have a peace of mind if I know something might happen any minute.

Please consider that sometimes printed object itself produce some noises. Or mechanical parts of printers. And yes, I don't like leaving running printer alone too. I installed IP cam to watch it remotely 🙂
