Issue with SD card reader

Hi,

I just finalized the build of my Original Prusa i3, and have an annoying issue.

If I insert the provided SD card in the Prusa reader, the card is sometimes detected, but not every times, and trying to read the content to try to print a g-code file provide various results: sometimes the content can be read, but after browsing some files the name list become quickly corrupted with randoms characters, and sometimes there is no file list.

For now I'm able to print from Pronterface, but I really like the capacity to be able to print without a computer driping the gcode.

The sdcard itself can be read perfectly from the sdcard reader on my computer, I was able to backup the files, and I tried another SD card with the same result.

Any other actions from the LCD panel are working fine.

What can be done ?

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Re: Issue with SD card reader

Hi Christophe

Best to contact support as there may be a problem with the LCD/SD card panel.

Use the "live chat" facility on the shop pages and give them a link to this thread.

Peter

P.S. SD card is not the best way to print, hence why many of us have moved on to OctoPi/OctoPrint.

Thanks for the advice, I'm in touch with the support.

OctoPrint is something I want to have a look at, I have an unused BananaPi I could dedicate for that, but I prefer to have first everything working as it's intented to.

My SD card and LCD display have very rarely worked properly. It doesn't matter as I hardly ever use them. I have never used the SD card and the display is only used for loading and changing filaments. It is way easier to have the option to control (and view) the printer from my PC or smartphone.

While i agree that Octoprint (etc) are better than an SD card (im moving to them soon) Using an SD card is definitely better than using a dedicated PC 😛

Ive used my SD cards on my 2 machines for probably a combined 300 prints and havent had an issue yet. 🙂 But im gonna upgrade to Octoprint soon (once my new Pi's come in!)

Re: Issue with SD card reader

As Erron says, better to use SD than PC connection; I did this for several months with a Chinese clone. But it is such a pain to do this; I had 2 SD cards and moving the files to them on a PC then removing the card, swapping over the cards on the printer - all not for me!
