i3 MK2 calibration Garbled Text and Mintemp error after trying preheat

Hello all
I recently finished putting together the i3 MK2 kit. Following the printing manual, I finished running the Selftest and XYZ Calibration steps and I started to load the filament. Until this point all the previous calibration steps were successful.
When I was preheating the nozzle for PLA and it wasnt reaching the 215°. I went to preheat again and something must have crashed.
The text on the screen became garbled and I now permanently receive a Mintemp error.
I have taken some pictures of the screen. Whenever I boot up the board the text is garbled. I can get past the garbled text by rotating the knob and pushing the knob button a couple times. Not sure if there is a pattern there. I have tried resetting the board as well. The text is still garbled and I have to guess where English is when selecting the language..

I have run a selftest again afterwards and receive the message "All Correct"

The garbled text would seems to be an issue with the firmware? The mintemp error is a problem with the thermistor. However, the selftest runs just fine (so is the thermistor fine then?).

Anyone with experience with either of these issues?

Very much look forward to replies

many thanks
Jesse

Can you take a photo of the underside of the MK2, especially how the cables are placed.

If you press the control button once, and leave it alone, does the display settle back to readable information?

sometimes the display can be temporarily corrupted by transient's in other cables. it might be an idea to try and re route the ribbon cables a little to reduce this possibility.

best wishes, Joan

Joan, thanks for the reply
When I start up the board without touching the controls the board oscillates between a blank screen and a screen of jumbled characters. I let it go for 20 seconds or so and it just continues. Blank screen, jumbled characters... blank screen, jumbled characters.
When I push the control button once a few screens (9 of them) of jumbled characters appear one after another and then the main info screen comes up.

I have moved one of the ribbon cables so it no longer follows the other, but the result is the same.

Is there some sort of test i can run for the Rambo board itself?

I had similar issues to what you are describing and I narrowed it down to a faulty hot-end thermistor. Check the resistance with a multi-meter, mine was reading around 30 m/Ohms instead of around 100 k/Ohms where it should be for 25c. You can also confirm this with a 100k resistor attached to the thermistor port on the Rambo. Not having continuity through the the thermistor was causing the issues with garbled text on the LCD in my case.

Hope this Helps
Rob
