How to perfect rail-to-rail distance for y-axis assembly?

Hey guys,

I'm currently assembling the MK2S, and on step 12, part of the video showed that the outer rail-rail distance had to be exactly 178mm.
However, I don't have access to a 7+" caliper, and don't really want to get one when it'll see so little use.
For now, I just eyeballed it the best I could using an imperial tape measure and it seems to be okay, but I was wondering if there are any alternative methods?

Thanks

Hi Brian,

I am having trouble locating the point that you are at,in the build, because you didn't mention which section you were in, however I think this video may help.

https://dozuki-guide-objects.s3.amazonaws.com/igo/video/prusa3d/cRUAaTcgN6WcR2KX_MP4_592.mp4

the video demonstrates how you can use the aluminium verticle frame to adjust the Y axis frame width, perfectly without access to measuring equipment.

the Y axis frame length is adjusted, using the smooth rods as a measure of correct length,

Best wishes, Joan

Hi Joan, thanks for your reply

I'm referring to the video for step 11, section 2 (Y-axis assembly).

Specifically, at around 2:40 when the calipers are used and an error of .5mm is shown as not being okay.

Is the frame method accurate enough?

It is how i did mine... mine was a mk1 originally and the instructions were to adjust y axis to frame and make sure that the screwed rods were located at the bottom of the slots in the frame. Before nipping up the nuts. Seems to work
