How much tension on the extruder springs ??

I had some cheap filament that just shredded in the Hobb-Goblin so I had to take it apart and clean them not I can hear the extruder clicking how do you set the tension? I have tried barely grabbing the nuts, I tried about 1mm 2mm and 3mm of the tension bolts sticking out from the other side of the extruder while I can make it tighter it doesn't stop the clicking so how do you set the tension properly? I can't find it in the book

You just have to run some filament through the gear and back it out using the "Move Axis" -> Extruder (Set the hotend temperature to around 150C so it lets you move the E axis). Then hold the filament that ran through the gear up to a light and eyeball it. I used this thread http://forum.makergear.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2694 , it has a nice picture.
