How Hot is Your PSU?

Hi Folks,

After about an hour my PSU is almost too hot to touch. I can put my finger on it for about 5 seconds. Is this normal? I am in low-power mode and not in an enclosure. I am however printing in the garage, where it's about 100 F. Is it worthwhile to place a spare 120mm PC fan on it to cool it down? Thanks!

Electronics don't like running for long over 60C (140F).

Mine is running around 40C (104F), but I'm in a basement that is about 22C (72F).

This is after running for 1:43 printing Buddy.

Thanks for the insight! Yeah I think my garage is about 100F to start, so it's basically a giant enclosure. I'm going to start running a floor fan just to get the air moving and see about attaching a 120mm fan to the PSU.

I need to find a way to measure the temp, I have a laser thermometer somewhere that I need to find. I just want to make sure it's not a faulty PSU, but all things considered it sounds like I'm not way out of the norm here. 🙂

Just make sure this fan doesn't blow across your print bed, as that can affect print stability.
