Heater block upside-down

Ok stupid question 🙂

I had to replace the PTFE tube in my hotend, and after putting it back together i realized i had installed the heaterblock upside down.

I didnt notice this until my first test print finished, and didnt notice any adverse effects,

Should i worry or is it ok as is 😛

Hi Erron

There have been a couple of queries on this subject qute recently. Yes, the heater block is installed upside down; this assists with cable management (thermistor cable) and there is nothing to worry about.

hehe.. No I actually ment i had installed it the reverse of how the instructions told you to.

(I was wondering why the fan cable was so tight, but didnt realize that.

So i assume by your response the orientation of the heater block does not matter.

OK. Upside down is with the thermistor on the left and the heater cartridge closer to the top of the heater block. This is how the extruder is built and installed on the factory-shipped printer.

Right way up is with the thermistor on the right and the heater cartridge closer to the bottom of the heater block. This is how E3D manuals describe the extruder build, but this causes the thermistor cable to run across the front of the extruder/stepper where it can get caught and possibly damaged.

Bottom line is that the end result is pretty much the same.

What you do need to ensure is that the nozzle is at the rear of the heater block and the slot relief for the heater cartridge at the front.
