Heatbed cutted

Hello to all,

Today I've tried to remove a little piece of PLA from the bed with a cutter.
The result is not as expected 🙁
I've removed a piece of the above layer of the bed.

Can I continue to print anyway?

Seems I've cutted the protection on the bed. Seems a plastic sheet. Is it? Where can I purchase it to replace it? Or what could i place instead? I've seen there are glasses as well. Any suggestion is really apreciated!

Thanks a lot!

Simon

Yes you can continue printing just if you have any prints over the area, it will have a little bump to compensate it.
You can replace it:
http://shop.prusa3d.com/en/3d-printer-parts/109-replacement-pei-sheet-ultem.html

they are just always out of stock though 🙁 I've been waiting awhile to see if they ever get stock in to sell instead of just use on the printer orders.

In the meantime, you can try filling the hole with glue stick...

They will probably never get on stock, you'll have to contact customer support via live chat and order one this way. Also, PEI sheets are available on eBay.

Re: Heatbed cutted

PR will only sell the pei sheets to their customers. If they put them on stock, they would be all bought up by other printer users, leaving none for us!

Hence, it we do need them, we have to ask.

Re: Heatbed cutted

I sourced a PEI sheet from another place just in case before my MK2 upgrade kit arrived. That supply route has gone (: But new routes have opened. But as I have said before the damage to my Prusa I3 Mk2 is in an area I do not envisage in printing near in the future, so far !
Look and see and search and you will find PEI sheets other than from Prusa Research.

Prusa Research overall is poor in supplying spare parts.
Most can be sourced as open source if you look from elsewhere, except the printer bed!!!! With built in sensor inserts < not genuine open source available. The Pinda sensor is difficult to source too.

For now I'm trying to get the part from the support. Meanwhile I'm searching the same PEI around, but no luck.

That looks identical to my PEI sheet, only i've never had anything stuck to mine to tear it.

I find that prints peel if they cover that area of the bed and the print ends up failing, so it definitely needs fixing.

If you live in the states, this looks to be the same item to me:

Re: Heatbed cutted

I have a spare PEI sheet and as I said, that source has gone. Looking today, I cannot find a source for PEI sheets. Perhaps, Prusa Research has bought them all up.

As Peter says try filling the damage with gluestick, meanwhile.

Would be that an alternate or is the sheet required?

Even a bigger glass for MK42 bed.

Thanks,

Simon

The glass is for the Mk1. You need the PEI sheet for the Mk2. Anything else would bee too thick for the probe to work properly.
