Heat shrink

Maybe a stupid question. The heat shrink over the Z axis plastic tube motor couplings. Is it meant to be heat shrunk down, if so when?

Re: Heat shrink

I wouldn't heat shrink it. You won't be able to tell when you need to push the rod back down. I think it was meant more for aesthetics.

Re: Heat shrink

Hi Nigel

What Jarred actually meant to say was that if you don't shrink the heat shrink, then there is a good chance of the Z threaded rods moving...

You need to ensure that the threaded rods are touching the motor spindle within the plastic tube and then properly shrink the heat shrink with a heat gun so that is overlaps a few millimetres at both top and bottom. This will prevent any unwanted vertical movement of the X carriage.

Re: Heat shrink

Thank you Peter. I didn't know if the heat shrink could hold it in place. Learn something new everyday.

Re: Heat shrink

Hi Jarred

No problems... It really does help, but only when it is fitted properly, otherwise it is quite pointless.

I did the calibration and get great test prints. Printer has run for over 12 hours. All perfect. So I will use a heat gun to shrink the heatshrink now.. Thanks for the replies.
