Geiger Counter style noises

Yup, as the title says, I have Geiger Counter style noises going on and unsure where they come from.. I tried to get my ear close to the source, but without getting hit by the printer it proved to be not that possible..

It's a MK2S! Just with a MK3 style carriage!

All pulleys were checked, gears on motors were checked. Pretty much checked all the screws I could, nothing was loose.

X and Y axis both use IGUS DryLin aluminum bushings, so they do not rattle for sure. Y bearings are held by custom holders, not the horseshoes.

I have changed X rods recently, so I had to disassemble the X from the Z. Maybe it's Z bearings? They're still default ones I use for a year.

Switched Z bearings (all 4 of them) to fresh ones. Noise still there. Driving me nutz. 😐

Re: Geiger Counter style noises

You need to isolate the noise. For example try testing each axis individually first., without printing anything.

Also, could it be something caught in a fan?

Moving every axis is not making the noise appear no matter how violent and fast I get. I have taken the fans off and cleaned them. My blower seems to be tired, but it doesn't explain geiger style noise on movement..

Just a thought but have you tried printing the object with no filament loaded? That would see if it might be extruder related.

I found the reason of the noise. It's the hotend fan. It's a MagLev fan, so it seems it's shaky. 😀 Crap.

Re: Geiger Counter style noises

Well, there aren't too many things on a printer that can generate high frequency noises. I was thinking fan bearing would be a good possibility as well. Glad I could help 😉
