Fuse F3 blown on first preheat

So after nearly a week of assembly and adjustments I finally managed to get my i3 MK2 assembled:

- Selftest OK.
- Calibrate XYZ: OK - axes are perpendicular 😀

So I went to insert the filament but I was seeing "ERR: MINTEMP BED" as it was only 11 degrees C in the garage,
After applying some heat with a heat gun to get to > 15 degrees and power cycling the machine I went to "Preheat" selected PLA and then....

Everything shut down.

Having pulled the fuses it looks like F3 has blown 🙁

Does anybody have an idea whether this could be a wiring issue, bad luck or cold weather (or all 3)?

I had this issue with my other 3D printer. To fix the issue both by Mk2 and other printer are under a $6 Bella plastic storage container.

I heat the air in the enclosure using a $12 space heater, one with the knob thermostat built in.

💡 might be either bad luck or a wiring issue with the heatbed (don't think it's weather related).

❓ did you replace the fuse (15A, i think a car fuse will do) ?
➡ can you measure the resistance of the bed ? should be at about 1 ohm (+/- 0.2 ohm).

 or maybe somebody assembled the c54 in the wrong direction, which will blow up that capacitor with an intensive smell like rotten fish

Re: Fuse F3 blown on first preheat

Check the PSU is set to the correct voltage.

Check that the power inputs are in the correct sockets - it has been known for users to plug the power inputs into the bed/extruder heater outputs and heater plugs into the power inputs.

Check that there are no shorts on the bed cables.

The self test should heat the bed a little, so it may be that you only need to swap the 15Amp fuse.

I suspect I've also blown the fuse, but I haven't come across this kind of fused socket before. How do I open it to get at the fuse without breaking it? Thanks. 😳

💡 there's nothing to open. just pull the blue 15A fuse (the whole thing with the blue plastic) out of it's socket and replace it with a new one.

➡ you can get these kind of fuses at every well sorted car shop (or even at your petrol filling station).
